This movie has so many portrayals in other movies I am surprised you didn't want to watch it. Even the Christmas Story had the Wizard of Oz in it.

If you think about it, the Wicked Witch was always throwing FIRE, or exiting in FIRE..that was her power..So it makes sense that the only thing to defeat her was WATER!!!! Yes, that was her weak spot, and Dorthy found it when helping her friend the Scarecrow!

So much fun seeing Jordan getting caught up in it! I've seen it so many times I'm at the point I can step back and appreciate it for the production and the wonderful actors who brought the characters to life. It's fascinating that the whole thing was filmed in a huge warehouse, very much a stage production but including the pinnacle of special effects technology of the time. The cyclone/tornado is incredible, and mind boggling that they were able to create that effect with physical materials on a stage set. Young Judy's rendition of Over the Rainbow is a transcendent moment and Margaret Hamilton set the bar for the archetype of the Wicked Witch. When I enjoy great films such as Lord of the Rings, I can't help thinking that The Wizard of Oz was insramental in helping pave the way for other films in the genre. It truly is a treasure.
