The speeding ticket is a big story for the press because Dryden is taking the points for his wife - or was it the other way round? I can't remember. Either way it's the dishonesty that's the problem. A senior officer could be brought down by this (the charge is Perverting the Course of Justice). Around the time this was written (2012-13), there was a real case like this here involving a government minister and his ex-wife. They both got 8 months in jail. Guessing Jed Mercurio was reading the papers. I think the wig thing is now just tradition. Part of the uniform for a barrister.

The wigs are seen as the traditional part of the barristers uniform and are meant to show respect to the court. They haven't been worn at all levels since 2007. Interesting that you like Steve's voice. Martin Compston is actually Scottish, so his real accent is much closer Dryden's.
