Such an incredible episode, it really does show the depth of Walter's commitment and devotion to Peter, whether it's his son or the others. But it's sad because his love is so great that it is both good because it saved Peter, but actually bad too because Walters selfish need ends up causing so much pain and suffering down the road.

It's top tier, honestly. So well crafted, superbly acted, and it brought so many things together!

Love this episode so much, we kinda know what happened but to see the emotional impact on everyone involved really packed a punch. The 80's intro and graphics were a nice touch.

Let's not just gloss over the fact that this episode gave us the greatest nickname in the history of nicknames, "Walternate".

Yes, you were correct in that Walter could have opened the gateway anywhere. He chose the lake because there could be a huge discharge of energy at the site and he was hoping the lake could absorb and contain it. I remember being amazed by this episode and particularly the revelation that the Observer was not only active in the other Universe but was responsible for Walternate missing the cure. I remembered the August episode when August said that they had interfered before and the other Observer said, "Yes. But only to correct a mistake of our own making." It had bugged me for so long, especially as I saw the August episode on the original airing but didn't see this until the re-runs, but finally I had an answer. Gosh, I loved this episode almost as much as August. The writing in this series was often amazing.
