My guess is that their house was the first one built and that is why it was targeted. Whatever the reason, it's kind of a big plot hole because clearly they had been there for a while, so why all of a sudden did this start happening? Maybe I missed something, a triggering event? Overall, it's a fun movie and a great watch for Halloween.
