Abe takes the reigns this time to make the case that this jaunty, joust-y film is the jam. Why do we take old stories and dress them up in modern clothing? What's the point? Adam is also there. Sometimes Abe gets too excited and someone needs to settle him down a bit.

Am I crazy or aren't LA Confidential, Mystic River and Man On Fire kind of fairly direct adaptations of the novels they're based on? That might explain why when he got to work on his own original stuff he goes in a completely different tonal direction?

This is a good point. Also, I feel when you're a writer in Hollywood, you're more of a chameleon, adapting your writing style to something already well established. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.
