Happy Chinese New Year to you all! Right now all over China people are sleeping off their massive dinners and probably a lot of Baijiu, there will be massive hangovers in the morning  and everyone will be looking forward to more of the same as soon as they wake up. This is the most important holiday of the year and is all about family and eating to the point of insanity and although it's fun and jovial it's very difficult to be a part of it unless you have Chinese family but occasionally if you have a very very good Chinese friend you may be invited to join the family celebrations (but this is rare as it is a very intimate tradition).

Watch my wife Sasha explain why she loves CNY:

Here comes the confusing part, it happens on a different day and sometimes a different month and you'll never ever know when it actually happens as it follows the Chinese Lunar calendar and to be honest even most Chinese people that I ask DON'T BLOODY KNOW! Even my wife couldn't tell me the exact date until about a week before it happens, it's annoying and yes of course there is a Lunar calendar that you can look up and figure it out but it's confusing as of course it falls on different dates each year and you also have to take into account that different families have different traditions and so will have different celebrations on different days during the CNY holiday, it's such a headache that even after 13 of these celebrations I'm still left clueless and have to rely on my wife to tell me what's happening a few days before it happens... Not like Christmas which is on the same day of the year every year, guaranteed.

Haha, either way it is always a fun experience and I hope that if you are Chinese or are curious about the culture that you get to experience it in all its glory!

- Stay Awesome!

(P.S here's a bonus GDS compilation that I made last year for my Patreons which has some CNY celebrations in it near the end, you may have seen it already but for those who haven't... Enjoy!)

It's always been a hell of celebration here in Indonesia. Thanks Hu and Winston for sharing from there.

To be fair, if a Chinese person who solely uses the Lunar calendar to evaluate the Gregorian calendar, the dates will be shifting as well. It's just depends on your perspectives. much like any international person despises the English measuring system, which is not as scientific as the metric system, but as Americans we live with it and it gives us an identity. In actuality, the dates don't move as much as you think as the lunar months follows the moon cycles where as the Gregorian Calendar doesn't.
