In a recent video (the one about Beijing and Shanghai not being China), I included a clip of a woman spending ages staring at herself trying to get the perfect selfie and although I know it's not uncommon to see similar behaviour in other parts of the world, I know for a fact that in China and broadly Asia, it's far more exaggerated and pronounced, but let's move on from Selfies...

People in China spend an incredible amount of time on their phones, so much so that carrying around more than one power bank is common and in fact "shared, rentable" power banks are available in many restaurants and shops (a video about that coming soon).

I am a bit of a hypocrite myself, I am constantly on my phone checking out my YouTube comments and keeping up with all the social media surrounding SerpentZA and ADVChina, I do however know when to stop and pay attention to my surroundings and also stop myself from being absorbed in my phone when sitting down for a meal with people etc... Chinese people on a whole however have absolutely no social embarrassment surrounding phone use and find it very normal to use their phones in any situation including in the cinema, in meetings etc but I'd like to move past that and make it very clear that although people these days are obsessed with their phones in most countries around the world, you cannot even begin to compare the phone obsession in the west with China, people even go to hospital for using their phones too much here, don't believe me? Here are a few articles about it:

How about becoming fully paralyzed?

And well.. when your hand starts to swell and really hurt because you've been playing mobile games non-stop... probably best to carry on until it becomes paralysed:

So I think the lesson here is to perhaps learn some moderation... And for those of you who think that phone addiction is just as bad in your own countries, think again, China really is next level and if you were to see what I see in China on a daily basis you'd be absolutely astounded at the dedication some mobile phone users have in China!

Either way, I hope that you manage to stave off physical harm from playing mobile games and until next time, as always:

- Stay Awesome

My girl was walking to the MTR and saw a woman walk right in front of a bus in Hong Kong. That freaked her out so bad she won't look at her phone while walking.

Chinese people are just more self absorbed than any other country.. They are not taught to think about other people's feelings or considerations.
