As of this post, I now have every Korok in Tears of the Kingdom.

(Please rest assured that this is not my only accomplishment for the month.)

So first of all, I'm gonna start this report off with a little personal update! I've been finishing up a major editing project on my day job, while also actually trying my hand at editing a few YouTube Shorts as an experiment, so that's what's been taking up some of this month's time. Aside from that though, there's been other progress made on several fronts!

Tetris on a McDonald's Nugget | Things of Interest

Say hi to the next impromptu video topic! The McDonald's Tetris Nugget is exactly what it sounds like, but the circumstances of its China-exclusive release is half the story, and as a novice Tetris collector living in close proximity I of course had to get my hands on it.

While translating Tetris to the LCD handheld format works well, this nugget definitely has its unique quirks the more I play with it. I noted in the video that it doesn't use the traditional Tetris grab bag RNG, but it also doesn't let you rotate a piece in certain instances when it's up against a wall. Couple that with the single clock-wise only rotation button and it definitely makes for a less ideal Tetris experience. I suppose in the end it's still just a dumb novelty, and people love dumb novelties. :P

The FlashBoy Plus video

...it'll look way cooler than this in a bit, promise.

Currently, the script and voice recording are both done for the FlashBoy Plus video! There's still a little bit more footage to record, but for now preliminary editing is beginning on it, so it's on track to be out in early July!

I suppose what's more interesting is talking a bit about what's next...

What's next

If you've been following my reports, the next video on the schedule is another Things of Interest episode on a GBA TV Tuner. That idea has been around for a while, delayed by technical issues, but I figured I could finish it up as an unscripted video where I just hook it up to all sorts of consoles!

The thing is, there's been quite a few Things of Interest episodes in a row, and while I can film the rest of the GBA TV Tuner stuff on my own time eventually, I wanted to take a look at the core videos.

I haven't really covered a lot of more 'mainstream' topics on my channel since the NSMB Level Gimmicks core video back in January 2022. And while I obviously do enjoying covering obscure and niche accessories, I feel that having a balance between that and more familiar topics is a pretty important factor in growing the channel. I passed 45,000 subscribers on November 17, 2022. More than half a year later...that number has gone up by 307. Yes, channel activity is a factor in this, but I think the slower growth in subscribers can also be attributed to less mainstream topics on the channel in the recent months.

The core videos haven't been resuming regularly aside from the NSMB Level Gimmicks video and the 2022 Games Review, because I was spending time continually workshopping projects in limbo or finding larger 'compilation' topics that require more research a bit daunting to tackle. So I figured, it's probably time we went back to smaller topics for the core videos for a change, similar to the ones I did in 2019 for things like Photo Dojo, PDI Check and Play Nintendo etc.!

I've actually had a bunch of small video topics amassed in my idea list, so I made a poll for patrons in the Expansion Pack tier to vote on which video idea they'd like to see me immediately do next, or focus on the GBA TV Tuner video as the next video!

If you're in the Expansion Pack tier, cast your vote here! I've extended the vote deadline so there's a little less than a week left!

All of the ideas in the poll will eventually be done because they're all fun subjects to tackle, so this poll is just for which one of them gets priority first. I'm very hoping that these ideas are the kick-start that the channel needs!

Other stuff

A very important piece of Nintendo media dropped this month...

...that's right it's EVERYBODY 1-2-SWITCH BABY

In case you missed it, I recently hosted a multiplayer session with members of my Discord server. It was...certainly interesting! The full session is over 2 hours long, but I'll be editing a highlight video of the funniest moments and possibly putting it on the Plus channel in the future, so keep an eye out for it!

This month's pickup is...Learn with Pokemon: Typing Adventure for the DS!

This is the only DS game to support the bundled Nintendo Wireless Keyboard, and it is definitely one of the typing games of all time. The game's not too much to write home about, but coupled with the Bluetooth keyboard that can also be used on other devices, will make for a pretty fun Plus channel video!

This also makes about, like what, 4 or 5 DS accessories in my collection? Let me do a quick count...

  • Rumble Pak
  • Browser + Memory Expansion Pak
  • Taito Paddle Controller
  • Guitar Hero Guitar Grip
  • Wireless Keyboard

Huh, yeah. This might call for an accessory-based video in the future but I do wonder if that's too big of a scope lol. Some of those will definitely make for decent video ideas on their own!

That's about it for this month's report! Remember to those in the Expansion Pack tier, you can vote for the next video idea right now! I'm definitely looking forward to checking out these fresh topics lol
