How was this not a season final!?! This really went above and beyond what I was expecting, Seeing Palpatine again feels so weird and the presence he gives off is incredible, but that ending really caught me off guard!

Hi Man

God this episode! I get chills every time I watch it. First off, seeing Palpatine again was incredible. The way he commanded the room with just his presence was masterfully done along with the eerie music as soon as he came on screen. I really like the luthless Sithlord Sidious but I always liked the scheming politician mastermind Palpatine a lot more. So everytime we see more of this I'm always just over the moon happy. Let's also not forget the amazing voice acting of the legendary Ian McDiarmid who can still voice Palpatine with the same amount of intensity and brilliance as he did in the prequels. And the way he handled this situation was just classic Palpatine. No matter if the bill passed in favour of Rampart or not, he still had a contigency plan for either option where he would still win no matter what. When he announced and namdedropped Stormtroopers first in the episode I got so many chills but is aslo so sad at the same time. And the worst thing is Omega and the Batch probably blame themselves for this because it was because of their actions that Palpatine was able to get the Stormtrooper program started. So they unintentionally made the fate of their brothers set in stone. Echo was also a big surprise this episode even though it was obviously expected to appen sooner or later but still we thought his departure would come much later. I especially like how at the beginning of the episode when Rex called them as soon as Rex mentioned he needs help, Echo immediately jumped up and asked "What do you need Rex?" And you could see Hunter noticing how eager he was to help Rex. And even though we didn't get to see their conversation about Echo leaving on screen it's still nice that it seems the rest of the Batch supported his decision and their whole farewell was very respectful and didn't end in animosity between any of the members. They all get that this is Echo's true calling. Andf as you said it makes perfect sense. Especially after now since he feels even more responsible for what happened to his brothers, of course he would want to help. It really comes back to the beginning of this episde where he told Omega "This is where I fit, where I was needed" referring to the Bad Batch. But now he is needed with Rex more than ever. It's sad but heartwarming at the same time since the old 501st. buddies get to reunite and fight together once again. Also Rampart getting handed the finger at the end by Palpatine was really satisfying. Even though he was a formidable villain he still wasn't ready to play the game in big league with the likes of Palpatine. That seat is still reserved for Tarkin and a few others. It was also a nice touch that at the end when echo was saying goodbye it was the classic triumphant clone theme playing in the backround which we heard a ton in the Clone Wars instead of the classic Bad Batch theme. It's a really subtle way to show that Echo is going back to his roots and is ready to be the ARC Troopers of the 501st he was always meant to be. It's really beautiful but sad at the same time, especially for Omega who as we've seen has a really hard time handling change. This was an absolute banger of an episode and I can't wait for you to see the crazyness of the rest of season 2. Also to answer a question you've asked about the clones age: Clones age twice as fast a normal humans do so at the beginning of the Clone Wars all the generation one clones like Rex who were first off the line for the Kaminoans were 9 years old. So in turn they were physically 18 years old when the war started. The war itself lasted for three years and season two takes probably close to a year after the war ended. So this would mean that Rex at this point about 22 years old. But physically he is 44 here that's why you noticed lines around his eyes. If you recall Omega also noticed the exact same thing in season 1 when she first met Rex and told him he is a generation one clone determined by the lines on his face. (The age acceleration dosen't stop either so since the average lifespan of a normal human in Star Wars is 80 years then that means most clones will live up to 40 years old.)

You could definitely consider this the Mid-Season Finale as these 2 episodes dropped at the same time rather than a week apart, so things might slow down for a couple episodes after this before ramping back up Yeah Palpatine just carries this presence, everyone froze when he arose from the ground, even as a viewer I froze I felt like I was threatened, he even acts different now... well maybe not acting different but he's completely dropped the Kind Old Chancellor Facade which we saw happen in Revenge of sith when he made his Galactic Empire Speech and is like "Screw that old act, I'm The Emperor now" 😂😂 I don't know how Lucasfilm Animation does it but immense praise to them haha. Yeah Echo departing with Rex caught me off guard at first as well but when I processed it I was happy for him, the Arc trooper in him clearly can't stand by while the galaxy falls apart and he has the power to do something, Poor Omega though for her it must feel like her Family is falling apart, you had crosshair and now Echo now the Batch are down to Three. If I was to give this show a bit of criticism I definitely think we needed atleast 1 episode between the S2 premiere and this episode before Echo departed that reminded us of what he wants and gave us an insight into Echo's feelings a bit more and I think the Phee episode would've been a perfect opportunity, if I did a little rewrite of that episode I'd have it play out pretty much the same but rather than the whole Batch complaining about treasure hunting have it just be Echo throughout the episode who thinks it's a waste of time etc so when the giant machine thing nearly kills them that really sets him off, then maybe at the end of the episode they could've played on that tension between Hunter and Echo disagreeing about their future, so he confides in Hunter again saying something like "Look Hunter I know you wanna keep Omega safe but there are still better things we could be doing for the galaxy, so how's it better if we nearly died following some pirate chasing trinkets from dead people?? this isn't the kind of thing I want to be nearly dying for" and that's kinda where the episode leaves off. then at the end of this episode Hunter and Echo could've had a bit of an extended goodbye like they're in agreement and understand each other and that little tension building there is resolved. Definitely think it's missed opportunity but it is what it is. Still really Happy for Echo and his decision and how it played out!

His mere presence in this episode stole the show, it’s such a contrast from his Clone Wars self, coming off as kind and harmless, here it’s so much more menacing. Now that old Palpi has gone I can’t wait to see more of this version, it’s like a mask has been removed and he’s being allowed to show off more of what’s underneath. Palpatine’s voice is so sticking and it’s quite shocking that so many actors have done it each time it sounds perfect, Ian probably is my favourite though just from seeing his voice work and physical performance; the way Palpatine works is my favourite thing about him, he’s a chess player villain and thinks of absolutely everything and it’s mesmerizing to watch it all unfold. It honestly hadn’t sunk in yet that the whole Stormtrooper program could be blamed on the Batch, their intentions were so innocent and pure yet it birthed something so monstrous not only for the Galaxy at large but for the people they care most about. Echo’s whole part in this is so bittersweet and I kind of like that the episode doesn’t prepare you for it in the slightest, there are hints to it but just to come out with his departure so blatantly with everyone being so casual about it stung. The way they did it definitely makes the audience relate to Omega so much more, especially with an adult audience who’d find it difficult to connect with a lot of what she’s going through having her react the same way I did has made me far more invested in her character than I already was. Echo himself is definitely in the right place now, still really sad that he’s away from the group but his story was obviously pointing in this direction, only hope that he shows up again from time to time so it doesn’t feel like he’s really gone. Rampart’s defeat here is so shocking, he had so much set up but having Palpatine get thrown into the mix really makes Rampart feel like a fish out of water, I do wonder if he’ll show up again but how it ended feels like it could go either way, maybe he turns on the Empire in his prison cell or maybe he just rots there for the rest of his life. Love how they use the themes in this show, the score as a whole has been amazing and so significant. I am so stocked for the rest of this season, the fact that this was only midseason is blowing my mind so I can’t wait to see what they’re saving for the end. The Clone's lives are so sad, only living for about 40 years, makes me think about what’ll happen to Cut and his family and the fact that some of them probably won’t even live to see the end of the Empire or last long enough to enjoy it’s defeat. Palpatine truly is the embodiment of evil, designing a whole race to fight his war and then all die out so he doesn’t have to clean them up after.

This whole arc shocked me just because the creators decided to do something so crazy only halfway through the season so I have no clue what to expect for the final. Palpatine was absolutely phenomenal, the entrance, the theme, the grandeur, it’s such a contrast from his old persona and it goes to show how untouchable he feels now. Echo is definitely in the right place now, I’m still sad though that he’s left the group but he’s where he’s needed. Omega’s reaction was so painful, wish she was included in the conversation, and it wasn’t just sprung on her. Completely agree with your criticism, and your rewrite sounds like a perfect solution. I felt like the show has built to an ideological friction between Echo and Hunter but that didn’t amount to anything but Phee’s episode would have been the perfect situation to explore Echo’s thoughts. Even though Echo received plenty of development and focus in the Clone Wars, he was very much lacking in it with this show, when dealing with a cast with all these characters having a significant impact on the plot, the development and focus need to be balanced on all the characters to the extent that they at least have a memorable moment to contribute to the show. I feel like Echo’s most significant thing so far is actually leaving which makes me really sad cause there is so much more he could have done. Hoping he’ll show up again though since this is Rex’s second time so he might get some more moments that can contribute to him.
