The six Artificial and Natural Spirits stood in a row in front of the television. Aclysia, then Claire, Momo, Delicia and Beatrice, five pale, white-haired maids, and then the naked, caramel-skinned blonde right next to them. A bit of a sore thumb in the group, but John would still approach this as he always did: alphabetical.

It was not often that John was happy that Gaia offered him repeat choices. The Monster Girl Ascension Perks were just so powerful that he hadn’t thought he’d be offered more than one. He was glad to be proven wrong.

The Cryonic Beam was the new contender and it brought with it a couple of undeniable advantages. The breath attacks were nice natural weapons with utility they had in addition to their game-themed Skills. Aclysia’s ranged options existed, but they were limited, especially paired with her relatively low mobility. She could move fast to allies, which was the important part of being a guardian.

To give her a ranged attack that slowed and potentially froze a target would be quite valuable. It increased the area she threatened, thus making it easier for her to fulfil her combat role.

Giving her wings obviously also increased her threat range. It also gave her access to a whole different dimension of movement. The AoE aura would also stack with the one she had already, making her a walking blizzard. Definitely a good combo with the ice carapace she already had.

Last and certainly not least were the claws. These offered no bonus utility in terms of range or cooling her body down, indirectly increasing all ice damage. However, the sheer threat of the Black Ice was immense. One hit and the enemy would have to spend time freeing themselves or be eventually choked out by the blooming ice flowers.

All three choices were good. Worse, all three choices were viable. None were clear victors in John’s mind. Range and CC, mobility and damage or damage and CC, that’s what the three choices boiled down too.

“Aclysia, your preference?” John asked.

“I would prefer the claws, Master,” she had an answer ready. “I believe I fulfil the purpose of a ramping damage threat. The longer a fight goes on, the bigger my advantage grows, and the claws would play into that.”

John was not entirely convinced by that explanation. ‘Am I not convinced or am I just unwilling to discard the other two possibilities forever?’ he thought. He identified it to be the latter. Thus, with no counter argument found and her preference stated, the decision was made.

Aclysia wasted no time, raising a hand. Cruel, sharp claws, like icicles crossed with tar and knives, extended half the length of her fingers from each digit. They were similar to Siena’s, albeit without the backwards pointing edge. Effortlessly, she snapped one of the claws off. Beatrice pulled a bucket out of her inventory and held it underneath Aclysia’s hand. A moment later, the entirety of her claws slipped off her hands, like snow cascading down a roof during thaw. Through her eyes, John noted the loss of colour, as it lay in the bucket.

“It will be a most useful tool during Raids, Master,” Aclysia assured.

“Probably,” John agreed, reluctantly. “I feel like Gaia will have defence mechanics against that, like she has for Arcana Strike and its derivates.”

Here there was only one repetition, Energy Spires, and again all three choices were juice. From the raw description, none of the three sounded quite as impressive as Aclysia’s. That could be traced back to Beatrice being a tremendous damage threat, with most gimmicks related to her own mobility. Consequently, most bonuses were just more of the same. More of the same, when it came to damage and mobility, was a sure-fire way to victory.

“Demand: Taser Tail and Teeth,” Beatrice stated, before John could finish his own decision making. “Rationale: Additional limb to use in rapid attacks. Potential non-lethal option.”

“Hm, yeah, that works for me,” John answered. He had an easier time with this because of how certain she was. Lightning Lady would have been another option, purely because of the doubling of the surges, but either was good.

Beatrice’s maid uniform was soon replaced with the white scales of her dragon form. Translucent claws of electrical energy played around her fingers and danced over the membranes of her wings. Visibly and audibly, it hummed down the length of her sleek, lizard-like tail. As advertised, it split into two white, metallic prongs at the end, each of them sharp and angled ever so slightly inwards, almost causing their tips to meet.

After inspecting her own tail for a moment, Beatrice turned to look at John. She opened her mouth wide, revealing fangs that had sharpened and grown to the point that they just barely fit the confines of the human mouth. They were even more threatening than Claire’s vampiric canines, sitting among an entire row of teeth fitting a predator.

John had no idea what was wrong with him, but the sight turned him on immensely. The pearly white, terribly dangerous teeth in the attractive face of a woman that had sucked his cock a ludicrous number of times before just did it for him. There was no logical reason. He loved it like people loved their spices.

Beatrice closed her mouth with a resounding ‘Clack’. Then the maid uniform replaced scales again, taking the wings, tail, and teeth with them. Left behind were only the draconic marker of her horns, slit pupils, pointy ears and gemstone below her neck.

Attention shifted to Claire, who barely managed to stand still in her excitement. “How will I change for my John today, I wonder? How will I improve? How will I tear his enemies asunder?” she mused loudly, a dreamy smile on her lips.

It was too bad these were mutually exclusive. Rivers of Blood and Vampire Maids would have made for a fantastic combo.

Those two were what this was between, ultimately. Princess of the Night remained unpickable. Claire may have managed to pull him a bit towards seeing it her way in having the insurance of her mesmerizing abilities, but enthralling people definitely went one step too far for him.

John genuinely had a hard time picking between the two. Vampire Maids were more pleasing aesthetically. Not a basis to make his decision on. He still noted it.

What were the benefits of Vampire Maids? They had the everyday functionality of helping Claire with her various tasks. During intel gathering, they would make for useful middle-nodes in the familiar network. 100 metres was an alright range and they could always be paired up with someone that had a phone who they reported to – if they couldn’t operate a phone themselves. In combat, having lesser versions of Claire around would be of great benefit.

What were the benefits of Rivers of Blood? It had nothing in terms of everyday functionality. During intel gathering, it would make it more likely that scouting familiars returned to report what they had seen. The degree of that increase depended on how stealthy these Bloodrivers could be and how fast they were. John assumed they would be at least moderately fast and, although blood did have a striking colour, liquids had the ability to take many an unusual route. In combat, the increased max level was an obvious boon. Bloodrivers would assure that Claire could steadily resummon her familiars, minimizing resource loss and thus capable of entering a game of attrition with her opponents. This would synergize with her current ability to dissolve into and reform from members of her Household. It would make her near impossible to kill.

However, this was already true. They had not tested it, for obvious reasons, but in theory Claire could restore herself with 1 HP from any of the 10 spiders she kept roaming the Hudson Barrier. Those chosen familiars operated at infinite range. She always kept one in the Palace, just in case. Even if that one did not work, all the ones she scattered in an area she was operating in would. Once Claire scattered, she could fundamentally respawn from any one or clump of familiars. Using too few would cost her HP and it was a disorienting experience even when controlled. Likely she’d have no idea where she was if she reformed after her original physical body died.

In any case, she would live. To kill Claire, one either had to be VERY dedicated, to have a way to cut her off from her familiars (such as pariahs), get a clear shot at her core (an impossibility unless she allowed it), or kill John. All in all, she was honouring the reputation that vampires were difficult to kill completely.

And Rivers of Blood would still boost that to a degree that was laughably overpowered.

Yet again, Vampire Maids were just so useful at projecting power in an area.

“You should take the Vampire Maids for bonus sex slaves!” Claire suggested.

“First, I don’t think I’d like that. They’re very little more than golems, so it wouldn’t sit right with me emotionally. Doubly so because, second, it says that their only pleasure in life is serving you. You know my stance about having sex for my exclusive pleasure.” He looked over to Eliana. “Only do it when the submissive gets a kick out of it.”

The memory of that one time he had disabled her sexual sensitivity fully made both of them groan in delight. Her, while Nathalia rode her face, and him, while Salamander used the lull in the decision making to accelerate the shaking of her tits. John closed his eyes and tilted his head back, letting the sensation of the plump tits push him over the edge. By the time he opened his eyes again, Salamander’s face and tits were painted white with his seed.

“Alright, ya got your turn!” Rave declared. “Make room, hot tits McGee.”

“Fine.” Salamander scooped some of his semen onto a finger and sucked it off while moving to a different part of the couch. For all his perversions, John did not like it when tits covered in his spunk were squished against him. Salamander, in turn, liked it when Lorelei was tongue-cleaning her tits. Thus, the apocalypse elemental moved over, Rave knelt down between John’s legs, and Metra took the open spot. The harem was always in motion.

And the Perk still unpicked.

“Alright, so I want to be clear that I want most what works best for your build.” John had to raise his voice a bit, over the moaning and slurping of his girlfriend, among other such noises. “I won’t have intercourse with these maids, because I don’t think they’re capable of enjoying it nor that they’d be more than advanced Real Dolls.”

Claire was left contemplating it as much as he was. “My primary function is on-field intel gathering,” she thought out loud. “Either has its advantages and disadvantages for that.” She puckered her lips, tilted her head, and hummed. Then she tilted her head the other way. Hungrily, she glanced at Rave’s bobbing head. Eyes swiftly stared at the ceiling instead. “Can I just have Prince-“

“No.”

Sighing, Claire went over it one last time. “I’d like the Rivers of Blood, then,” she finally gave her answer. “Much as the extra hands may help during everyday business, the extra survivability will be nice. I’ve settled into this life.” She smiled around the room, causing the sex to halt for a moment so everyone could smile back at her. “I’d like to assure it continues.”

That was a very good answer and John pressed the corresponding button. Claire summoned and then squashed a particularly large spider familiar. The effect was as expected, the insectoid being of black and red mana turned into a crimson splatter that soaked into Claire’s skin. There was a minimal loss, less than a percent point. She repeated the process, except this time it was Aclysia who splattered the spider, a few metres removed. It turned into a thin, crimson streak that could’ve been easily mistaken for an out of place slime mould. Slowly, it moved, following its mistress’ wish for it to be as stealthy as possible.

An out of place slime mould was easily spotted, particularly when it was a deep red colour. It could also be missed and navigate through cracks or near walls. It would remain to be seen how intelligently these streams could navigate around attempts to trap them. Attempts to damage the stream caused parts of it to dissolve into red mist. Similarly, when it was inert, it gradually grew smaller. Both caused the final joining to have diminished effectiveness.

It all worked exactly as expected, so John moved on to the next one.

“Yo, what the what?” Delicia blurted out when she saw her choices. Because none of this meant much to John, his understanding of alchemy remained rudimentary, he just let her take it all in. In due time, unprompted for once, she provided an explanation, “Endless Catalyst y’all should get…-“

“Ey, ain’t no stealin’ that, it’s country gal copyrighted,” Hailey drawled.

“We’re fellow haremettes, so I get shared access to intellectual property!”

“Ya better be stickin’ by that whenever ya make somethin’ I want.”

Delicia grinned smugly. “So I’ll never to have worry. You’ll never know when I make something you want. Unless you’re an enigma alchemist too, hm? Are you? Do any of my brews look any different to you? Do they? Hmmmmm?”

“Ya doin’ the brat thing again.”

“I am the brat thing,” Delicia declared proudly, then went back to the choices. “Ultimate Catalyst would be very useful for my research. Magnum Opus… I don’t know.”

“To a layman like me, Philosopher’s Stone sounds pretty impressive,” John said.

“Ehh, it’s way overhyped,” Delicia rolled her neck. “Basically, you create an object that, in theory, can be used as a stand-in for anything.”

“Anything?” John was not entirely sure he got what she was saying there. “Anything in what context?”

“Yes.” Delicia made a broad gesture. “Just anything. The Philosopher’s Stone is raw esoteric value bound in physical form. With the right transmutation applied, it can be transformed into anything, conduct any kind of energy, or bind any kind of materials by effectively becoming both.”

“How often would that be useful?” Scarlett asked.

“Yeah, exactly!” Delicia stated and pointed at the redhead. “How often in your life do you look at something and go ‘I’d rather go through the lengthy process of defining my super rare and valuable Philosopher’s Stone into the solution my mind came up with, that might not work, than just use the tools humans have developed for this problem’? It’s like coming up with a new way to attach a picture frame to a wall each time, instead of just using a nail. Then again…” she tapped her lips, lost in thought for a little bit. “…I am a genius… so I could find those new ways… particularly if I get the stones for free…”

“Well, even if you dedicate half your daily output to it, it’ll take you 100 days,” John cautioned.

Delicia was contemplating for a little while. Then she shrugged. “Eh, I can just make them the normal way, with the amount of resources we have,” she decided. “Give me the Endless Catalyst. Boring option, I know, but it’s the best one.”

John did as recommended, leaving two more Perks to be selected.

There were two new choices here and one was something John had been craving for a long, long time. On Wings of Chaos was out anyway. As good as it was, Metra refused to have any Perks that bound her closer to Tiamat’s image. The Claws that Catch was a good one. It was extremely good, even. However, continuous Astrotium generation?

Sometimes, infinite value generation was actually the best choice and he was of the firm opinion this was the case here. Metra gave him the go ahead with a shrug. Not like she needed any more offensive options in her roster to be effective, especially against mages.

“Give me the Fae Maids,” Momo demanded immediately.

“Not even considering the Blessed by the Viscountess one?” he asked.

“I get that it’s good, but you know how much easier my life would be if I had 50 helping hands at all times instead of these things?” She gestured at her shoulder where, with a sparking ‘POOF!’ one of the Firefae manifested. The tiny cross between human woman and firefly waved at everyone, kicking her legs in the air, and smiled like she did not care.

John had an often combat oriented mindset when it came to Perks. A mindset that grew increasingly less reasonable as he grew more powerful and thus had less challengers. Momo was the one familiar most deserving of Perks that helped her with her job rather than combat, considering the amount of work she did. Therefore, he nodded and pressed the button.

With a second ‘POOF!’ the Firefae on Momo’s shoulder transformed instantly into a slightly larger, cuter version of herself. Her insectoid aspects had been diminished in favour of her human ones. Slender curves, quite similar to those of Momo herself, were covered in a traditional maid outfit, with a long, black skirt, an integrated white apron, and head frills.

“Show us the big form,” Momo requested.

“Alrighty,” the Fae Maid chirped and flew over to an empty spot. For a moment, she vanished from John’s field of view, then an average sized woman suddenly stood there. The outfit was the same, covering her curves modestly. Sized up, her face was attractive and closely resembled that of the maid that had spawned her. Her irises filled up the entirety of her visible eyes and possessed the same blue colour as the firefly-esque bottom and wings that were attached to her backside.

“Can you hide those?” Momo asked. The Fae Maid nodded and both vanished instantly. The eyes remained, however. Usage in the mundane world was therefore out. Not a huge drawback, all things considered. One after another, dozens more of the Fae Maids appeared, standing in orderly, tight rows. There was no real individuality to any of them. They differed in their colours, but there were only the 5 between them that corresponded to the different kinds of Fireflies Momo used.

“Can you lift your skirt?” Sylph requested of the first one. Everyone in the room groaned. “We were all thinking it, don’t hate me when I just say what’s on your mind!”

“…Just do what she asked for,” Momo told the Fae Maid who smirked and did as requested.

Tantalizingly slowly, she pulled up her skirt, revealing legs of bare chitin. It emulated the appearance of stockings for long enough. Once halfway up her thighs, she pulled the skirt up all the way to her chin and revealed her completely smooth pussy. “Yes, we ca-an,” she said and Momo pinched the bridge of her nose. “Well, we can, unless the Viscountess doesn’t want us to.”

“So, if I say you don’t, you don’t even have the urges?” Momo asked and she nodded. “Fantastic, disable that immediately.” There wasn’t even a sound of disappointment, neither from the maids nor any of the actual people in the room. Much like the Vampire Maids would have been, John saw the Fae Maids as too much of an object to consider them truly attractive. They were fifty ability generated carbon copies of each other, that had no individuality beyond being in different places. They had no capacity to grow or change from experiences, were recreated whenever they died, and all their minds were formed for their tasks of housework and applying buffs to allies.

To use one of them would have been more entertaining than masturbating. That was about all that could be said. Did the fantasy of banging 50 identical maids tickle a part of John’s brain? Of course it did. Beyond that tickle, however, there was no interest, and he had so many more interesting urges to act on.

Aclysia clapped her hands. “Let’s see the support you’re capable of, then.” The head maid directed the fairy maid to direct her Fae Maids. Before such complications could become regular, Momo established a chain of command and then the head maid commanded her extended maid forces out of the room.

It turned out that they were inferior to even the trainees that Aclysia had at her maid academy. For one, a lifting restriction of 30 kilograms was not terribly much, for an Abyssal. That could be worked around, though, by keeping them focused on simple chores. They were good at cleaning. They could not cook, unless given very clear instructions and oversight. Gardening, they excelled at.

In short: they were alright support staff. As proper maids, they would be a failure, and they certainly wouldn’t replace Aclysia’s efforts to keep training a generation of maids to serve during Fusion’s larger events.

Some very good Perks had been gotten.

I have a question and a comment, I’m curious about the blood, I understand that the amount she can reabsorb goes down, but does that affect information as well ? If half the blood is lost is half the information lost? And my comment is that I think claws that catch is a massively OP basically full on end game god killer ability and he’ll eventually regret not taking it if it doesn’t reappear, with an ability like that she could eventually solo some of the big boys, like the rat or even the Angel.
