This was mt favorite movie when I was a kid. Sadly the version u watched is the directors cut and while most the scenes are generally the same- the entire music score is different then the theatrical release i grew up with. I think this version lacks so much depth and the whimsical nature of the movie gets lost for me with this score. It's almost impossible to find the version I'm talking about unless you're lucky enough to own the old VHS tape.

2023-09-09 04:29:56 Ah, we had such a good time watching this! Bestie instantly pointed out the difference in music from what she remembered, but we still enjoyed it. This was only the second time I've watched it and tbh I had forgotten most of it. Jack reminded me a lot of Link (Zelda) especially with the fairy floating around like Navi ("Hey! Listen!"). I read that there were rumors this was the inspiration for Legend of Zelda but that it wasn't true. You can definitely see a decent amount of similarities though, but that goes for a lot of fantasy tropes in general. The kid that played Gump looked SO FAMILIAR, but I looked him up and didn't know him from anything. He does look a bit like Asa Butterfield, but I'm not sure if that's who I'm thinking of. I REALLY love the old fantasy (and horror) stuff from the 80s and 90s pre-cgi. It's always so awesome to see how creative they could get with both set design, creature creation, character makeup, etc. and stunts and just all the different things. I would definitely love to see some of that come back into movies. You recognized Screwball's voice, but couldn't place him. He's from Willow! He's the High Aldwin (spelling?) And on that note you should definitely, definitely, definitely watch Willow!!!! (Sidenote: Disney just did a one season mini-series follow up to Willow with original cast included, minus Val Kilmer, and most people hated it, but I enjoyed it)

I was obsessed with Unicorns as a kid. Books, posters (yes the huge ass crazy fantasy posters), figurines, jewelry, movies, anything I could find (except clothes? never wore anything with them).
