a powerful episode- honestly, emilia is doing amazingly throughout the trials, and to face an impossible present as painful as that says a lot about the strength that she's building up by herself. im honestly so so proud of her. I just need to understand why Echidna hates her like this, what did Emilia do/not do? Cause it feels like Emilia knows why Echidna hates her...

The lake scene where she looked at herself in the water has a bit more meaning because it is the first time that she has looked at her reflection. She’s always been hated and persecuted bc she is a silver haired half elf that looks like the witch so that caused her to not want to see how she looks like especially earlier in the episode where she avoided the mirror. Later on though she overcame that because she doesn’t want to always be protected causing her to want to see herself in the lake, which is why she says,”I look less like Mother Fortuna than I thought”

In the case of Subaru's second trial, the trial kind of glitched. The trial of the present is supposed to show you an impossible present. Because of Return by Death and Subaru's lack of knowledge about how the power works, all those "impossible" presents suddenly became possible for him. This both makes it impossible for the trial to show Subaru an "impossible" present and it makes it impossible for Subaru to meet the clear conditions for the second trial which involve him accepting that the impossible present is impossible and that he needs to accept the real present. It's funny that you mention Elsa being a proctologist. The author of Re:Zero once wrote a high school alternate universe story for April Fool's day where all the characters went to high school in modern day Japan. In that AU, Elsa was the school nurse. As for Echidna's hatred of Emilia, all the author has stated is that the reason Echidna hates Emilia is something specific to Emilia herself. It has nothing to do with Emilia being a half elf or looking like Satella, whom Echidna also hates for different reasons. In the novels, Echidna also states that she knew Emilia's biological mother, but refuses to speak on it further. So that may have something to do with it, too. The author has stated that we will know the answer to Echidna's hatred in time. The green crystal that Otto and Petra were using against the mabeasts was one of the barrier crystals that surround the village to keep the mabeasts away. Subaru used one of the crystals in season 1 to protect himself from the mabeasts in the forest and forced them to target Petelgeuse, who didn't have a crystal. Otto and Petra were trying to do the same, but the Guilty Lowe (the giant lion chimera thing) is too powerful of a mabeast to be affected by something like a barrier crystal.
