Hey guys! Here is the completed video for my metal cover of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories' "Free Duel" theme!

This theme is insanely nostalgic to me. I remember playing this game all the time when I was a kid and it's such a fun take on the card game. This theme was like permanently burned into my head and it's such a banger.

We were talking about this game in my discord a while back and I really started contemplated doing an arrangement for this duel theme. It was a bit nerve-racking because the original is very trance-style and has a very simple pulsing rhythm. Most of the time, I like to have my riffs and rhythms be a bit more crazy but for this arrangement, I knew I had to use restraint and maintain that pounding down beat trance rhythm that the original had.

Just a few hours into the arrangement and I knew I was onto something special. Incorporating some keys as background textures to the guitars helped a ton in creating the ultimate metal / trance hybrid and I just went from there. I really let loose some creativity and did some background stuff that I normally don't get away with doing haha. Also the solo turned out so good haha. I'm super proud of it.

Overall I'm so proud of this arrangement and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Here's something that's insanely nostalgic for me and it's a theme I've been wanting to shred up for a while! Forbidden Memories is one of my favorite games for the ps1 and it was definitely at a height of my love for Yu-Gi-Oh with the anime being super popular at the time as well. This theme pops into my head all the time with its insanely catchy melody and beautiful chorus. The challenge I faced with this arrangement was preserving that trance vibe of the original but trying to make it a crushing metal track as well. I feel like if I messed with the drum beat too much, it would lose the epicness; so I left it very faithful to the original, until the chorus that is. :) However, on guitar, the melodies came out SO good and it translates so flawlessly. Same goes for the rhythm guitars playing the backing part. Such a pummeling back beat. I feel like these melodies and riffs are what drew me to cover this initially! I had so much fun putting this together and I'm so glad to have finally made this into the cover I've been imagining it being.
