Hi everybody! I finally finished this video on the collaboration of Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke that I mentioned I was going to do in Jupiter Mission [A]. This video goes into detail on how their collaboration got started. Just a couple of facts are repeated from my series on 2001-- I wanted to treat it as a stand alone video and possibly as an entry point to the series on 2001.

I have been learning After Effects and forced myself to do this entire video in After Effects in order to sharpen my skills a bit. This actually took a crazy amount of work to complete, but it was a great learning experience. I think I will edit my next video in Premiere and add in After Effects stuff as needed. I really hope you like it. Please let me know what you think!

Thanks so much for your continued support!

The Kubrick Files Ep. 1 - The Collaboration of Kubrick and Clarke

The collaboration between Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke gave birth to one of the greatest films in the history of cinema-2001: A Space Odyssey. But how did this brilliant collaboration come to pass? Well, we begin in New York City...

Thanks for the video, good job. A little bit of constructive criticism, but please do not let it dissuade you from pursuing your own style and vision. First things first you went a little heavy with the After Effects stuff ( I know cigarettes smoke, don't really need animation added to let me know that) The editing pacing is little faster than I enjoyed in your previous videos, just feels a little needlessly flashy in places. I prefer the more contemplative pacing of your previous videos. Overall, these are quibbles. The content is fantastic as always. My opinion is my own and I don't expect it to be addressed or anything, just felt like offering it.

I appreciate your thoughts. I got about 3 minutes into the video and realized the amount of work ahead of me. It was interesting to experiment with, but as you mentioned, it does seem like a little much. The hardest part was coming up with animations for every little thing. I think this was the right video to experiment on considering that the story doesn't involve much film clips. This was also the first time I put the voice-over to music before I started editing. I wanted to try and make it more cohesive with everything sort of working together. I've been way too close to this-- it's nice to get some feedback on what didn't work so well. Perhaps this pacing would work better on something much shorter (like 3-5min).

All these videos are really a pleasure to watch and learn from . I wish you could drop the continuous music. Information and music don't mix. I wish I could do what you are doing!

Thanks for the feedback! The music is definitely more in the foreground on this video than the others. I was experimenting with making a more cohesive piece. Music is definitely an asset though-- it really helps cover up audio editing and quality issues. I'll probably push the music more to the bg next time. Thanks again!

As always, a great video! The music and After Effects seemed fine to me. Looking forward to your next video.
