Best episode in the entire series. Everytime I watch it I'm a wreck. Such good storytelling

This is one of the hardest episodes to watch, but one that I believe makes Bojack an incredible show. Beatrice has not been a good mother... but she was someone who experienced so much trauma and hurt that she still had to deal with while being a new mother. It's a tragic cycle of pain and sadness in Bojack's and Beatrice's life... but that makes Bojack's moment of kindness to his mother so powerful and heartbreaking. Showing compassion to someone who has been so abusive and cold to him was such a big move for him, and I couldn't be more proud. But thank you Imon and Abi, for sharing your stories with us as well! I don't think I can properly explain how much I appreciate the honesty and openness from you both. Family can hurt and be a major challenge, but you're both great mothers, wish you and your families the best

A little bittersweet moment at the end, Beatrice wasn’t allowed ice cream as a child, Bojack’s speech has her enjoying vanilla ice cream and she hesitates before saying delicious because it may be possible that she never had ice cream before and it breaks her immersion. Great reaction and discussion!

Just an incredible episode. Thanks for being so open about your feelings, I don't think there's anyone who can watch this without reflecting on their own familial traumas.

This was the episode that made Season 4 my favorite season. Damn, this was a powerful piece of storytelling. One of my favorite episodes for sure, and probably my favorite in the show.

This show is great therapy tbh. I realised a lot about myself by watching it lol and probably became more "emotionally open" and accepting of my problems after watching it, it legit changed my life for the better.

ryan

yeah I didn't catch that on my first viewing either

Welp now to wait for the monolog

I haven't seen that episode in years -- and it's still hard to watch for me. I don't mind revealing I teared up the first time watching it. That was the happiest ending Bojack could have provided for his mother. Even after all she had put him through, he still did care for her at the very end. For him? That was a massive step in the right direction. Beautiful storytelling. So here's the thing... There are more episodes just as heart-wrenching as this one coming up. But they all hit differently. Just like how therapy tackles different aspects of your traumas? This show does the same thing in a sense.

I love you guys !! Crying is good <3 loved the reaction ! this is one of the saddest episode of that silly show about a horseman XD

This show will always be amazing to me. The fact that it can reveal so much about trauma, mental illness and pain in general is amazing. When people ask why this show has talking animals, the best answer would have to be.. if it was animated with human characters it would be waay too real. Having animal characters with their own quirky mannerisms that can play off as good jokes really does a good job at reminding you that this is a cartoon. Cos without that comedy and ridiculous nature that only animation can bring, it would hit waaay too hard for people and be too real. This show really strikes that perfect balance. Look forward to future reactions. Out of all the seasons, season 4 would have to be my favorite. The writers did an amazing job making you sympathise with such an evil character. Beatrice was always portrayed as the one note cliche horrible mother, but the writing is so good that it explains her behavior in a natural realistic way, but it isn't trying to make you forget about her horrible personality. She's still a terrible person and just as equal horrible mother. Some people just should never be parents. But the deep exploration of her upbringing that really gives another layer to her behavior throughout the entire series is just too damn good.

Ill be the first to admit im not the best son at times, i could have called more whwn i moved out. This episode and game of tones from futurama are the only time i had to hit pause, call my mommy and tell her how much i love her right after it ended.

Jason Michael

Love hearing you two share about your own experiences. This is the show that will make you think and re live those things, because they nail it so authentically.

Luke Kirkpatrick

That would be really cool if your BoJack connection through your editor works out. The individual writers of episodes like Kate Purdy and Alison Tafel never get much recognition.

Thank you both for expressing your thoughts and emotions. It takes a lot to do that. I'm a fan of your work and always appreciate your laughter and insights into the show. Mental health is very important and I work in the field. I can't wait for your podcast to release. Have a wonderful day.
