Well I needed a good cry anyways! Great reaction as always, you two are awesome!

mundanelotus

I appreciate whenever you guys allow yourselves to be vulnerable. We really need to move past this notion you brought up of not showing emotion or crying, especially in front of others. Bojack does a great job of showcasing these topics. Great reaction and conversation!

oh boy. It's here...

Man I haven't had a good, warm hug in a long time.

Flashback to s4e6 in the fight over doll when Beatrice calls Bojack (who she thought was Henrietta) a "Worthless waste of my husband's jism".

Bojack is, in part, a look at depression, the things that lead to it and the way people deal with it and hopefully overcome it. One of the things that I appreciate about it is that it acknowledges how the lives of our parents affect us and holds a mirror up to the trauma and the love of those relationships. Definitely a show that helps you reflect on your own life, failings, achievements and trauma. Thank you both for not only the reaction to the show but to the willingness to be vulnerable with us. It’s hard but it’s also good to talk out the emotions you’re feeling and I’m glad you feel safe enough to do that with us. The deep thinking and willingness to engage in hard topics is a big part of why I come back. That said (and apologies for the lengthy post) I don’t know either of you outside of what I can see and hear online. With that in mind, I just want to say everything I know about you both suggests you’re great moms to your kids and good friends to each other. Keep doing what you’re doing: question, engage, reflecting and improving. Your kids see it, we see it and it’s not only beautiful but inspiring. So thank you for that and now I’ll shut up. :)

Little things like that are sprinkled throughout this season. Even the trippy part of the opening only happens after Bojack drinks the spiked coffee.

It is heavily implied Beatrice has dementia.

This show is my one of the best for this reason. It can have me cracking up laughing and then tearing up all in the same episode. I feel like i say it often, but this show was just so well done. The people making it did such an incredible job and I'm so thankful to them for it. Thank you ladies for watching even thought it's clearly tough for you. 🧡

Forgot how beautifully edited this episode was. It's starting to win me over my favorite episode Free Churro. I wonder if BoJack had any idea how bad Beatrice had it so he'd understand why she was emotionally incapable of loving him.

Always appreciate how open and honest you both are with us even if talking about such personal things are tough. Virtual hugs for Abi and Imon. I know you've mentioned slightly before you were adopted so it been interesting seeing your reaction to Hollyhock's story Abi. Really happy you were able to grow up in a healthier environment despite its own struggles. I'm sorry to hear you've been going through it recently Imon. Keep your faith in yourself strong and trust that even though what your going though is tough, you'll continue to learn and grow from these experiences. Sending lots of love and positivity to you both. This episode did a great job imo of showing what it must be like to be suffering through dementia and slipping back and forth like Beatrice was. My favorite minor detail to look for if ever re-watch this episodes is the faces. Some people Beatrice remembers clearly. Others are blanked faced and background characters in her life. But Henrietta and the servants who burned her things are scratched out. Its not that she can't remember them, she actively doesn't want too. They are scratched out like when you make a mistake writing in pencil without an eraser. Bojack may be an asshole and clearly has trauma from being put down by both parents his whole life; but its really good of him to sit with her in those last moments and provide a nice memory for her mind to rest easy with.

Dune

In regards to bojack, this episode shows that no matter what are mothers do to us or how they treat us, we still have some sort of love towards them. He may truly dislike his mother but deep down I'm sure he wishes their relationship was better.

Ruma Risto

This is one of the best representations of generational abuse and trauma I've seen portrayed on TV. Beatrice was a terrible mother and her past doesn't excuse her treatment of Bojack, but it does contextualize it. She was a victim of an extremely toxic and sexist environment. It was wrong of her to blame Bojack for everything that happened to her but somehow it's kind of understandable. To her, Bojack represents everything that her life turned out to be and his existence constantly reminds her of what she could have been had she chosen otherwise. Beatrice probably never should have been a mother but she just couldn't get an abortion due to the trauma of losing her doll. This episode makes the scene where Bojack throws the baby doll over the balcony even more heartbreaking.

Never thought about the "male energy" thing. Interesting point.

Foaming Clean

Her dementia is why she’s kicked out of the first nursing home. Once patients with dementia become violent it’s not safe for the other patients to be around them.

Worth pointing out that Beatrice mentioned many times she didn’t eat ice cream. For a brief moment, when Bojacks asks “Can you taste the ice cream?”, Beatrice loses her smile and hesistates, indicating the illusion was broken and seemingly plays along with Bojacks’s lie
