in my opinion, the reason why subaru seems so suspicious to rem & ram during the start of this episode is because, imagine someone saved ur master, asking for no returns and decides to leave but just to keep at a distance and monitor the mansion, not only that but he reeks of the witch cult, it kind of set off the red flags i think. Not sure if you notice, but it was ram (the red hair girl) who killed subaru at the start, which is why Rem (bluehair) said she was too soft, because Rem wanted to toruture subaru for info but Ram(red) just killed him.
