Y'all ready for Temptation's Ballad's second update? I've been having a blast writing for this and it's really been fueling me as an artist and writer haha~

This update sees our 3 heroes finally meeting and getting into trouble, as well as meeting a few new faces! Let me know what you guys think of the plot so far, I'd love to hear your thoughts, theories, and stuff you want to see in the future!

Oh and a slight change to how updates are released: Builds will be released to the general public about a month after Patreon folks do, so essentially Patreon peeps will receive content a month in advance. This will let me fix any big issues before thousands of people fill my inbox reporting the same typo or grammar mistake. It also helps make Patreon folks have more of a bonus from supporting me. Thank you all again, I can't do this without ya! <3

I'm really appreciating how characters are dealing with their problems. Usually, these games are filled with bottled up problems that cause problems because they're not dealing with them properly. But everyone so far has mostly been honest about their problems and worries. It's kind of refreshing and really endears me to the characters a lot faster.

So, I love the portrayal of magic in this setting. We see plenty of magic used for fighting and major plot events in fantasy settings, but I tell you, we don't see magic used as much for ordinary conveniences in everyday life. They've got vehicles analogous to cars and alarm bells and all sorts of other conveniences, in what together makes for quite a delightful kind of place. It feels like the Industrial Era, but with magic instead of steam (makes for much cleaner air in the city, at least), Previously I was a bit skeptical of how well a Wild West-esque sheriff, would fit into a fantasy setting, but he does feel more fitting now. Though the setting makes Marrow's opposition to magic seem less reasonable than before too. No enjoying the comforts of magic conveniences in his household. Artemi is an adorable little ball of stress and is far too pure for this world. She is in dire need of hugs, and life experience. Preferably both. I find her the most relatable at this point, with her being a goody-two-shoes and stressing about meeting expectations and being like a kinda naive tourist in a foreign land who always assumes the best in people. Too pure indeed. I'm entirely unsurprised by Cole's record of public indecency, but still amused. I wonder if he plans on taking Sidd to No-Pants Friday sometime (not that Cole really wears pants in the first place). Altogether quite a good update and some great expansion on the setting, although it feels like the leading up to some more major events in the future. I'm excited for the next installment.

I went and downloaded it and played through this and the original update, and I love it. Not so much that I don't want to see Repeat finished, but it's clear you're having fun and the setting and characters are fun so now I get to hope that two VNs get finished! Creator burnout is a real thing and being able to work on something that you enjoy is very important, you can see in the end product how much you've been enjoying making it, and that's a big thing. I really enjoy all the characters so far, Cole and his dad in particular. I love that Marrow is a big softy regarding his son, and Cole's desire not to disappoint his 'papa' even though he clearly knows he's not cut out for what Marrow wants. I also enjoy that he has two dads who seem to have a solid (if not completely formal) relationship, I feel like it's pretty rare to see wholesome gay relationships in VNs, especially not including the protagonist. I like that (at least so far), even though the characters have their issues, there's a lot more tonal levity to the VN than big sections of Repeat. Repeat was clearly draining on you in some ways because you were telling a very serious story with a lot of gravity, and while I think that story is amazing I hope with Temptation's Ballad you stick more to a 'zany shenanigans' style like the first two updates are going. Sidd and Artemi are interesting too, but Cole is the standout star with the other two so far just playing as foils to him. I can't say I mind that, but it'll be interesting to see how you choose to develop the other two further. I hope you continue with the style of lighthearted-ish and sexy-ish shenanigans and I'm looking forward to seeing more scrapes that Cole can charm his way out of. On technical issues, the animations are great, I think they add a nice touch to VNs. Even if they're really, really simple, just a bit of motion and activity makes the scene feel a lot more live. Something tiny like Artemi's head zooming in confused circles while Cole and Sidd are just going straight to where they need to be adds personality, just like Cole's little casting animations makes him feel more alive. Great work all around, and I hope you can keep finding this fulfilling as a creator, since your art and the stories you tell with it are both really good.

Oh dang, feels it hasn't been a week since I finally got around to commenting on your progress on this from my perspective. Shoot, it hasn't been a week now that I think about it. Welp lets see if we can break the comment section again. Narrative I liked the setup you did for Cole and Sidd's first adventure. The point that adventuring IS A JOB by Cole and that there are days that are gonna suck is quite true. Gotta start small and sometimes that means simple to get to bigger and better things. Little concerned about Cole's and Sidd's knowledge levels, however. I get that Marrow has a thing against magic and so it's not too popular in the Guild, but if it powers transportation...that's just sad. Does the guild walk everywhere or run in their missions? Cause dang, that must mean their stamina is superhuman! I really liked Cole's comments on how his dad would take him with magic though. I'm not a parent yet, but from personal experience that is the worst feeling to have as any child. Sometimes it's better to just be open about family feelings then lie through your teeth alongside material things. The two's banter about Marrow was neat to hear after that as well. The rogue who sticks it to nobles is always welcome in any tale, though I hope you have plans to elaborate on both sides of the spectrum. I find shades of gray in all things, even the imbalance between rich and poor, corrupt and vigilante, yata yata yata. Ah Artemi, ye shall be entertaining for your good nature and honor. Gotta say while I saw that cat's betrayal coming, he's an a-hole for going the extra mile to jam the sand in her eyes. Little worried that Cole may become a know-it-all in the story however since he was the only one who picked up on the cat conning them, as well as later in the chapter. Credit given his background it makes some sense, but it may make the story a little stale to me if his experiences answers a lot of situations compared to the others. Backtracking, however, how were they arrested if they were hired to bring the cargo to the store owner and delivered it, even though it wasn't the cleanest delivery? Yeah, the cat stole some gems, but what's the security standards for their client if they crashing through the door on accident makes them go to jail BEFORE he checks the cargo was delivered? Marrow had good reason be a rogue if this is where their society lies in standards... Wes is gonna be an interesting addition to where the story goes. Gotta have the counter good force to a rogue party, and he seems like a good match for the crew. Nice addition of Artemi having panic attacks and Cole and Sidd's means of calming her. I've had to help a close friend go through them for a time, so that was really touching for me. Also, Cole calling them his lackeys was funny but too fitting I thought. The story is still early, but I hope they do develop better to not be shadowed by him. Also, that loincloth bit sent me balling, (and staring at Cole's crotch thinking of that scene from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 where Elizabeth pulls a shotgun out of...no idea). Wrapping it up with the introduction to Clyde, I like the idea of a fight club and more Underbelly lore. I've been writing y own works, so seeing some more criminal element is always fun to read. Again, the innocence of Artemi and Sidd irks me a little bit, but I don't dubt that will change for the better. Also, double ass slaps were funny as hell in the writing mate. Development Ah the developer to developer bit. Once again, you're an inspiration in how you handle everything yourself. The coding, sprites, writing, scenes, and sound all flow nicely together and really showcase your above and beyond quality. Even the simple things of Artemi chasing Emil and Wes being knocked out is fun to see alongside read. Your sound this time round was on point, and I like the magical ones you included this time around. They didn't feel too...I'm gonna say fantasy? They were blaring but more grounded then twinkling or some other fanstasia-like music I would hear. Also, I never get tired of hearing that crashing or slapping effect, especially in the animation trnasitions or playing. Speaking of, great job on the sprite changes and addition of Cole's magic. It's great to see the addition of them, and as I said before I can't recall many VN's tackling it, so pat yourself on the back (or have a drink I don' care just celerate)! Cole's magic looks great, but I'd honestly say maybe a little too great. Having him take center stage felt too on the nose of "CHECK THIS OUT". Also, I thought the animated fire in his hand didn't fit the scene of the cell. I'd say maybe in the future if he does something like that, add a backdrop animation, so it look like he's controlling that instead of what is in his hand. Makes the context more obvious. And my favorite part those backdrops and models. I said it before, but it really impresses this time round. I was not expecting the detail on the wagon, nor the transition from it busting through the client's shop. I was actually wondering if you would want any help making some, but clearly you got it in the bag so bravo! I did notice some clipping around the wagon busting through the shop but it wasn't that obvious. And that's another...30-1hour minute comment creation? Hopefully, this is helping you mate. Keep up the great work! Now, I am gonna kick someone's arse in yugioh or For Honor.

I've always loved the idea of magic being used for regular everyday chores and whatnot! Like, you're not gonna be shooting fireballs THAT often, might as well use magic to make life more convenient lol. I was a little concerned with how Wes would fit in but there's going to be a mish-mash of cultural inspirations in Axia outside of just medieval fantasy. Hopefully I'll be able to incorporate them smoothly! ;w; Artemi is super fun to write for! She'll be a good foil for Cole's gremlin ways when the two of them start butting heads. It's super refreshing to write for a character that I don't have to worry about making a romantic option or eye candy. It makes for more interesting and refreshing character interactions imo. Thank you again for taking the time to write down your thoughts! These are the things I look forward to after every update haha <3

Aaah thank you for taking the time to write out your thoughts! I'm surprised how much people enjoy Cole and his papa, but it makes me super happy hehe. The main characters' relationships to their parents are gonna play a major role in this story, so it's cool to know folks are interested in them already! I've always wanted to see more gay parents in stories being sweet and supportive, Hamish and Marrow are my little babies <3 As for tone, Temptation's Ballad will definitely have its dark moments. But I believe it'll steer more towards a lighthearted humor tone for the most part compared to Repeat's long, dark segments. As a writer, Temptation's Ballad is like a fun little vacation before I dive back into Repeat's heavier story. Plus, shenanigans are easier to write when most of the characters can cast magic and whatnot :3 Cole's pretty much the main character in the first few chapters, but I think you'll enjoy how the Sidd and especially Artemi push and force him to change later on. The little gremlin boy is gonna have a pretty interesting character arc :3

Holy heck, thank you so much for spending almost an hour writing your thoughts to me! I really appreciate it! <3 <3 <3 Marrow's going to play a pretty big role in Cole's character arc going forward. I wanted to depict him as a super supportive yet stubborn parental figure, especially regarding magic. It'll be fun to see how Cole reacts around it, especially since he's so fond of magic and sees it as his only strength. His role as "The Liar" in the story is definitely going to live up to its name ;3 As for Cole's knowledge when he saw through the street urchin's tricks and stuff later in the chapter, I understand if it starts getting a little stale. I wanted to depict Cole as the physically weakest out of the main 3 characters, but also the one with the most experience and charisma. His experience definitely won't be as all-knowing when the gang ventures out of the shady parts of town though. The gang got arrested mainly because of destruction of property and because Wes has beef with Cole lol. It was a good chance to show off Cole's sneakiness when it comes to the law, and his loincloth of many pockets >w> Thank you so much! It's fun to explore Renpy's coding so that I can make the game more visually entertaining. The spell sprites are a great developer investment since I can reuse them in future scenes.

It took me a while since I'm a fresh new patron, but I just wanna give my two cents and my opinion on this build and on this game in general so far! English isn't my first language, so I apologize in advance if some sentences don't really make a lot of sense, I'm trying my best "^^ To put it into just a few words: I am absolutely in love with it! The medieval/fantasy setting is great and perfect for this kind of world-building, the way dialogues work and the way magic is implemented inside of them makes for some great narrative, and most importantly, what makes this game so beautiful and captivating are the characters! The way they interact, the way they're drawn (you are an AMAZING artist, not only an awesome writer!), the way the protagonists' stories and backstories are presented before they meet each other... Every character I've met so far, both protagonists and secondary characters, has been nothing but a huge pleasure! Cole's personality is definitely my favourite (just like his design, really, I think he's exceptionally handsome), I just love how cheeky and smart (in his own way) he is, not to mention how open he acts regarding his habits and preferences (I also love all the little innuendos and sexually-tense little scenes there have been so far!). But Sidd and Artemi are absolutely adorable as well, and the way these three interact with each other after finally meeting in this newest build... It really makes me excited for what's to come! They are an amazing trio and I can't wait to see the sort of shenanigans they'll find themselves into! And again, the most interesting part of it will be the evolution of their "character arcs": each of them has their own backstory and objectives, and all of them are extremely serious and deep, despite how funny and bizzarre their adventure as a trio is going to be (and trust me, I've already laughed out loud for many things that have happened since they met each other). To wrap it all up, even if it's not as long or useful as many other comments you've seen on this thread, I just wanna say that this project has absolutely captured my heart and that I love everything about it. And most importantly, the more I see of it, the more I feel inspired: I've been trying to write something myself for the longest time, without much success, but I know that I can learn so much from the way you write and the way you treat your characters & settings. They're the things that I love the most about Temptation's Ballad, and I really can't praise them enough. So for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! I don't know what else to say, even if I feel like I haven't said enough, but I'm writing this in a bit of a rush after finishing the latest build not more than half an hour ago. But I guess we can leave everything else that I might have forgotten for the next updates "^^ Again, thank you so much for working on this, I really can't wait to see how it goes on! Good luck with your work, I'll be more than happy to support all the way through it!
