So... it turns out that there was either a miscommunication about the carpet install date or else I'm an idiot. In either case, the carpet is actually due to be installed this coming Monday. Angry face!

I will still make an update video once carpet is in... but for now here's a picture. If you can't tell, these are the same exact colors that currently lie behind the set. My goal is to move the set without it being noticed, and I'm going to go so far as to move the piece of artwork that normally hangs on the light grey wall! I won't be able to move the window that normally sits to the left, so I'll avoid showing that angle. I'm only doing this to be silly--I'm not trying to hide this forever :)

Also, the outlets are all done and working correctly! The grey outlets are wired to a light switch and will allow me to control set elements like lighting without having to crawl behind the table and fuss with the power strip. The whole room is set up like this, that way no matter what future sets I might build down here, I can do the same!

For the newer patrons (including the two that just signed up--thanks!!) you probably/possibly (prossibly?) don't know what's going on, but don't worry! By this time next week, I'll fill you in.

Looks great! Why not close the ceiling before installing the carpet?

I agree.....looks fantastic! I'm curious too.......why DIDN'T you complete the ceiling before having the carper installed? Being a rather "anal" type myself I would have done it that way. Eager to see the finished project as I'm sure you will show it off when the time is right! Keep up the great work. VGC.

Because the area is a "set" perhaps he is not doing more to the ceiling. ?

I don't remember ever seeing the ceiling in the other set. However, some acoustic treatment might be necessary, but I know Alex is on top of all of that stuff.

If I recall correctly, he's leaving the ceiling unfinished so he can more easily hang light from up there without damaging any drywall that would be up there?

Alec mentioned in a video a while back that he wasn't going to close the ceiling. He cited the usual reasons: light rigging, cable management, etc.

I want to be able to rig lights to the joists and be able to move things around without damaging anything. Plus, a ceiling would require either being dropped by about a foot (30cm) or a lot of soffiting to conceal things like the ductwork you can see in the top right, and thus I have more room in any case. I'd like to be able to leave lights in place, but still be able to walk around freely

Alec: Acknowledged and understood. So............there's IS a "method" to your "madness". Thanks for responding.

You could always put up a window frame with a photo-print of the old outside. :-) Also, when I finished my wife's work-room (she did seamstress work) I put the sockets up at table-level so she never had to crawl around to plug thins in. I also put in 4 socket (2-gang) boxes with 2 20-amp circuits going to each box. So the left and the right vertical sockets were on different circuits. Helped when she plugged in a mangle and a heavy-duty serger right next to each other. Of course, since this was in our basement, all the circuits were GFCI-protected at the circuit breaker.

I am super annoyed with myself because the wall opposite this one would have been the perfect candidate for counter-height outlets! Eventually I want to have a full-length workbench there that could double as a set piece and actual working environment, and I only thought of that after the drywall was up. Oh well. However, I could easily do it after the fact with old-work boxes, otherwise I'll just do some long power strips running down below
