Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever seen you, so clearly, dislike something we’ve watched on the channel before LOL, quite rightly too this was one of the weakest episodes of the entire show imo! I had a very similar reaction unfortunately. I just gave it another watch before reviewing because I wanted to focus on what I liked more, but yeah some of the “comedy” here was genuinely painful to watch a second time. Even if the story doesn’t land for me in a particular episode, the comedy is almost always there in this show, so to not have either in this one was kinda baddd😂 Similarly to you it absolutely sucks to rip this show apart, but this just wasn’t very good, I feel like most people would agree on that? Having seen this episode now I understand more how you felt about the first episode! I wanted to be positive with that one because there is at least one episode per season (for the last couple of seasons at least) that just doesn’t work for me, and I thought episode 1 was that for this season, and I didn’t even complete hate it! But yeah, this episode made ep.1 look like the Ricklantis Mixup it was so poorly executed🤣😭 I liked that Rick was trying to make a change in himself, seemingly only for himself too, there wasn’t any external force making him go to therapy which is crazy big!! I thought the little moments like him saying sorry after yelling at Summer, despite not saying it to her face were notable and the most memorable parts of this episode. When you’re looking for positives in Rick Sanchez, it truly is the little things, so I liked that stuff a lot! Yeah just everything they tried to do here was so messy, I totally think there’s a good story that could’ve been told involving Unity, that deepened our understanding of them and maybe even enriched Rick as a character in some way, but they did not pull that off here at alllll. I hated the whole thing with the president and Dr Wong so much, like every subsequent joke on the topic was worse than it’s predecessor, until it was just so cringe and went absolutely nowhere in the end. These amazingggg animators however deserve a massive round of applause👏 despite them having to animate like a thousand people chundering into each others mouths💀 the backgrounds were INSANELY beautiful🤩 That’s what really caught my eye on a second viewing, just how refined these people are at this point is so freaking cool to see! All the various locations visited were so stunningly lit and the skies and colours were taking all of my attention, not that it was needed anywhere else😅 Was it cool for you seeing Virginia here? I imagine that’s how seeing London for me in that one Solar Opposites episode was like? Although they could’ve picked a better episode to go there couldn’t they?!!😭😂 The new haircut looks lovely mate!! I like the short too, especially with the curls, just makes them pop!✨ Lastly I know it’s been here for a minute but what do you think of the new Patreon Logo? I was kinda like “ew” when it first updated, but I think I like it more than the previous one now, very slick and stylish😅

After having tons of laughs last week and frankly that episode reassuring me about the future of the series and having tons of fun and being a giggly mess...without overanalyzing it, this was probably my least favorite Rick & Morty episode ever and at least going by my initial feeling actually by quite a large margin. I think there are multiple reasons for that, surprisingly none of which have anything to do with the voices...in fact throughout the whole cold open I totally forgot that ricks voice actor changed. The biggest part for me was probably bringing back Unity in such a flat and anticlimactic way, it just had the stink of a cheap trying to recapture some magic from the past and pandering all over it for me. And just like trying to reconnect with exes in real life and trying to reignite something that was great once it's usually better left alone and instead of trying to recapture something you once had you're more likely to tarnish what would have forever been a cherished memory. COULD they have brought back Unity in an awesome way? Absolutely, but they absolutely did not...everything from the theme, to the weird president trying to date Wong and being an insecure mess totally butting heads with the, ATTEMPTEDLY deep and emotional throughline, down to the little bit of emotional musical score during the conclusion which ENTIRELY failed to hit and live up to ANY prior emotional moment in Rick & Morty history this episode was a mess! Even the timing and the length of the emotional musical score seemed off like halfway through they themselves just gave up on it. They had too many concepts and messages they wanted to put into this episode and while the seeds of some of them when actually well developed could have been great in theory it was all just a flat fumbly mess of an episode. If you excuse the comparison this felt like someone capturing the first clumsy teenage attempts at sexuality of a like 14 year old talking a big game and then it's all clumsy fumbling with bra hooks for 5 minutes and stabby fingers. 🤣🤭 It just overpromised and underdelivered...everything. Well...so far this season is 1/3 for me, they better have SOMETHING up their sleeves otherwise this show turns from S tier (Must watch attentively and without distractions) to a B tier (Will watch while doing something else and only if the episode captures my attention will I stop what I'm doing) *snap* real quick. So in my opinion if ANYTHING, I think you took it easy on this episode. ^^ And in all honesty if things keep going like this this season I think maybe they should take like 3 years to actually write awesome episodes again and wrap this series up with season 8 and going out with a bang people will enjoy. Doesn't it feel like the quality gradually took a dip over the years ever since they seemed to care more about keeping deadlines and airing annually than actually taking the time they needed? I hope they can turn it around but damn, going into this season I was so afraid that losing Justin was going to potentially put the final nail into the coffin of this show for me but surprisingly this has been non-issue and instead it's the writing and decisions for the show that are making me sour on it....like if next episode we're not getting an actual Rick AND Morty episode I'm going to lose my mind. 😔

LOL Jordan 🤣 Yeah it was a weird thing for me to admit. I considered finding aspects of the episode that I DID enjoy and just pointing those out but they were too few and far between for me on this one. It helps knowing I’m not the only one that felt this way. I appreciate that they brought Unity back in for old time’s sake but they really missed their chance on impact here. I would have loved to maybe see a flashback of the two of them when they were together. Maybe there’s still a chance we’ll get that later this season/later on in the show? And OH MY GOD the Patreon logo 🤣🤣🤣 I’m so glad you brought this up because my response when I first saw it was “Oops!” 🤣 I really thought they would get a lot of negative feedback and change it back. I still prefer the last straight line and dot logo, but the blob is growing on me... She’s kinda cute hahaha

I’m honestly very relieved to hear I wasn’t alone in my feelings on this episode. I was worried I was over analyzing big time but based off of everyone’s answers this week, that seems to be the general consensus. I absolutely agree that they were trying to recapture Unity’s impact from season 2 and missed the mark big time. I think a flashback could have been utilized really well here… Showing their relationship together. Going from pure bliss to the mess of a relationship they have now. But Unity “releasing” everyone just felt uncomfortable…. Like they wanted us to feel sadness because she was in pain with that score, but it did not land for me that way at all. If anything, this episode just made me miss OG Rick & Morty even more 🥺 I agree that I would rather see this series end on a high note than have 3 more seasons of this quality… Such a bummer.
