The cool open got me like "Wait WTF is happening here" I like where their taking it. Fyi found another great animated series you may want to check out "Scavengers reign" on HBO. It is one of the most trippest series I seen in a while, really creative. Not the best I seen but very different

Hm after watching this season premiere I feel like maybe I did Rick & Morty dirty for going after episode 3 so hard because this premiere didn't hit for me either... maybe I just had a despondent and bitchy day yesterday 🤣 I mean it was fine but nothing in this premiere gave me that "Fuck yeah we're back" feeling like AT ALL. Wait a second did Arcane actually ruin my brain lol. Because ever since I watched that every new thing I watched was kinda meh unless I had a particularly good day. 😝 To be honest the cold open annoyed me because it was eminently clear that it's either an alternate universe or a "having your skull bashed into a mountainside" near-death hallucination so at least to me it seemed like they were going for a confusion/ shock factor thing and for that it was just too long. Also parallel universes are tricky to do well because if there's infinite everything then nothing matters if you introduce the concept wrong. Rick & Morty does that part well while they do/did engage in other universes the people they encountered there were dehumanized by treating them like they don't matter ESPECIALLY alternates of Rick & Morty. Because if you're not careful how you tell the story the whole anchor you have to being invested in specific people and stuff can just fall apart. I'm doing a TERRIBLE job of putting that into words but yeah so far from this episode this multidimensional thing has me worried from the way they used and introduced it so far. I'll see if I have a particularly good day in the next week or so and I'll give both this episode and R&M episode 3 another watch to see if they really didn't hit or if my brain just refused to cooperate that day haha.

OH! My friend was telling me about Scavenger’s Reign! I looked into it and wasn’t sold on the premise but thought the animation style looked absolutely gorgeous. Love seeing animators allowed to do their thing and make shows really shine with originality instead of making everything look like Family Guy or a Pixar film. I think the style suits what the show is trying to portray.

LOL! Honestly that’s fair, but it’s also fair if you just didn’t jive with either of them. I do think this season premiere VS last was not as compelling. And I think your reasons for feeling underwhelmed are strong ones. I will be interested to see how they handle these alternate dimensions because I agree that it could be done very poorly if it’s not handled delicately! ALSO YES I DO THINK ARCANE RUINED ALL OF US lol! I haven’t been as excited for anything as I was for that 2 second date drop announcement on their instagram page hahahaha
