Oooooh man this one..... My heart 🥺❤️ Honestly this episode was so tragic it almost didn't feel like an episode of Rick and Morty to me. I couldn't tell if I was supposed to laugh or cry or both? Well, except for Rick and Summer's plot line that is- that was about as Rick and Morty as it gets LOL

(PS Hoping to have episode 4 to you all tomorrow! Yay!)

I have to say, I thought it would be worse. I thought Morty would have to kill Planetina or something, but that wasn't that bad. I just finished watching Hunter x Hunter today, and the other night, there's a moment where the main character realizes that his friend who he's been trying to save is already dead and becomes emotionally broken, no music or anything, and I almost cried, and I don't cry at much.

Dude Mortyyy in this episode absolutely killed me that was so freaking saddd:c Man, that last scene especially was so emotional I don’t think I’ve ever really seen Morty like that before, I should’ve known anything remotely good for him was too good to be true😭 I thought Planetina was such a fantastic character and made for some really funny moments! After only just recently watching every episode of Bojack you would think I’d recognise the voice for Diane but apparently not, totally had to google it😅 I think I mentioned it in a previous comment but I love the Rick and Summer dynamic, they’re easily some of the funniest characters on the show and it’s rare that they go do something together as a duo so I was HERE for it!! Was it just me who thought the alien Rick had sex with sounded like Lazy Susan from GF??? I also really liked that Beth wanted to protect and look out for Morty during that whole situation, she can be kind of absent I think sometimes so when she came into his room at the end and just hugged him while he cried I couldn’t help but cry too, such a beautiful and heartfelt moment🥺😭 wishing you the loveliest rest of your week possible mate, take care✨

yeah, that part in Hunter X Hunter is sad but so is Meruim and Komagi's death scene.

This episode had a lot of good voice work in it. Besides Alison Brie they got Steve Buscemi as Eddie, and Jennifer Coolidge as Daphne. Actually Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Keith David of course have all done voice work on the show. I imagine at some point all of the main cast minus Chevy Chase will do some voice work depending on schedules. Donald Glover would be the one that's the hardest to get I imagine because he's always busy.

DarkAshtar

Just a warning the next episode is really cringy. To quote one the writers of the episode it is tasteless and disgusting. It's cringe comedy to the max.

P.s. My favourite part of this episode was that random ass opening scene with the acid rain and Diesel Weasel😂 I honestly thought he was going to be the antagonist of this episode for a sec there and was just in hysterics at the absurdity of it all🤣 truly a memorable moment✨

I think the brilliance of this episode was that they filled it with commentary, but in ways that were so entertaining and frenetic that you re already focused on something else before you really think too much about it. Even subtle things like Morty trying to cover up his offensive t-shirt when he meets Planetina takes a backseat to the dialogue and voice acting. The line from the sheik was fantastic, as was poking fun at the overt diversity of the original Captain Planet Planeteers. I don't believe they would have ever tried to make the Morty/Planetina love story so genuine without having that B plot to contrast it. Although, ironically, Morty spent a lot of the episode proving how Rick he was and, in the end, Rick proved how Morty he was by being so naïve to love. The most painful thing about Morty's break-up is that you can see that both of them were just trying to do what they felt was right, but the only thing they had left in common at the end was how much they loved each other; heartbreaking. And then they top it off with a heartbroken boy being comforted by the person he had chastised as his withering gift becomes a personification of his relationship with Planetina. Just a great episode all around.

You know, oddly enough, I found that one to be more peaceful than sad. I definitely liked Meruem, as opposed to the Royal Guards, but I think it was painted as more of a change in character as opposed to a break your heart scene, like Gon crying over Kite, or for example Ace's death in One Piece, where you're just supposed to die inside.

I thought this episode was quite sweet. It was one of the few episodes that made Beth actually seem maternal.

⭐🦋 Meh, I really don't go in for that tragic, teenage angsty relationship stuff. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get in my daily hour of writing. (Rocking the new look, BTW)

alyciadweeb

Oh man, now THAT is heartbreaking 🥺 Yeah I guess when you compare this episode to that, Planetina and Morty's breakup doesn't seem SO bad

alyciadweeb

Morty was breaking my heart in this episode 🥺 Honestly watching my reaction back made me realize... I don't think I reacted quite as sadly as I normally would have just because we've never seen Morty in that deep of sadness before! There were so many parts I didn't know whether to laugh or cry on and it wasn't until Morty started crying that I realized- oh shit, this is the once-a-season-heartbreaker-episode 🥺

alyciadweeb

Planetina and Diane are such different characters! So I don't blame you for not recognizing her voice! Honestly I'm the worst when it comes to knowing voice actors so I can't judge 🤣 SPEAKING OF! If that alien WASN'T Lazy Susan- they sound EXACTLY alike!!!! I kept thinking that voice sounded familiar! Great catch!

alyciadweeb

And oh my gosh the rat moment got me too 🤣🤣 I was like- Here we go! hahaha

alyciadweeb

That's so cool!!! Who did Joel and Gillian voice!? And ooooh I knew Eddie's voice sounded familiar! Steve Buscemi is such a boss

alyciadweeb

Wowowow what a beautiful review. "And then they top it off with a heartbroken boy being comforted by the person he had chastised as his withering gift becomes a personification of his relationship with Planetina." << I felt that! AND the poster of the bikini model up on the wall in the background. It was a single frame that represented what (I image) different women/girls mean to a teenage boy as he's growing up.

alyciadweeb

I thought it was really sweet too! Honestly it almost didn't feel like an episode of Rick and Morty to me (except for Rick and Summer's sidequest LOL)

Jordan

For sure I hope it’s not the only emotional moment we have this season as they’re always so well done in terms of writing and just execution overall! Im holding out hope because they got me crying twice last season with the emotional finale and also episode 2 with Tony and that beautiful toilet planet, the ending to that one really got to me and remains one of my favourite scenes in the show! Having said all that I really hope something positive happens with Morty this season as he absolutely needs a win at this point!😂✨

Thank you. I think I was still feeling it quite a bit when I wrote it -lol. You make an interesting point about the poster. I think as boys are growing into maturity there is a real confusion between love and lust until you actually experience it; and by growing into maturity I, of course, mean from around age 12 to 62.
