Once again, this show subverts our expectations. Remember that we thought both Grace and Simon would get off the train, but instead Simon is too far gone, and Grace remains to try and help the kids instead. It's a bittersweet ending, but kind of satisfying, I guess? You mentioned that Grace was partly responsible for making Simon the way he was, but I think it speaks to her character that despite all the manipulation, Grace was still able to change while Simon deluded himself: notice he said he's always right during their fight. Another thing I wonder if you noticed was that the protagonists for all 3 seasons were female with male partners, but in seasons 1 & 2 the male partners (Atticus and One-One and Jesse) brought out the best in Tulip and Lake, but in season 3, Simon brought out the worst in Grace. I think it also says something that their problems only began to resurface once they were alone together again, as if the other kids in the Apex were taking their mind off of each other. In any case, let's hope for Season 4 featuring Amelia!

Wow. The feels. THE FEELS! If there is a fourth season, hopefully it's at least up to the standard of season three. Even though it would be easy to hate Simon, I think his reaction to pitching Grace off the train shows he had long ago lost his marbles, so it's a little more complex a situation, I think. And the soldier thing we both picked up on? Must be a metaphor of some sort, but I'm not deep enough to figure out what it is.

Dude I am in legit shock right now that was insane!!! What an ending man oh my god that was pure genius! It was brutal and emotional with like 3 plot twists in the space of a minute😅 Everyone who helps make this show what it is have seriously outdone themselves and then some! The development that is given to these characters in such a short amount of time is unreal and has been blowing my mind for the past two seasons, but here I feel it just worked so amazingly and really payed off in that ending, WOW!👏 That scene at the end when Simon was just covered head to toe in numbers after wheeling Grace and was just laughing uncontrollably with the lightning in the background... FULL BODY CHILLS that was the most amazing scene from this show yet I think!🤯😭 THATS HOW YOU END A SEASON HOLY MOLY!!!🌟 Even from the very first episode it felt special and different to anything I’d ever seen before, but now it’s one of my absolute favourites and just feels so monumental to young adult storytelling as a whole! I hope more and more shows start to trust their audiences with more serious and realistic topics like IT has here! It makes for some fantastically creative concepts and I love seeing how animators approach situations like Simons death, it’s just so cool and I really hope this isn’t the last we’re going to see of the train! Today’s actually a really special day for me as it’s been exactly one year since I became a patron!!! I can now safely say one year later that was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made! This channel very quickly became my happy place and my comfort for anything bad or negative in my life and words just can’t explain how much that means to me! Sorry to get all sappy but I’m just so grateful to everyone here for making my first year in the dweebdom so special and to you Alycia for giving me such a beautiful and warm escape from reality when I need it!🌟 Here’s to many more years I hope!😁🥂✨

That was a great finale to a very interesting season! As you pointed out, it was much darker than the previous two, even down to the two main characters. I really like that Grace didn’t get off the train in the end. With a number as high as hers, it probably would have been very unrealistic for her to get it down in that short a time. Still, she seems to be well on her way, at least, having gradually changed her attitude towards the “nulls”, and even saving Simon after he tried to kill her. Seeing her personal journey throughout this season has been very interesting. Hopefully she can lead the rest of those kids down a similar path. That backstory puts a lot into perspective about her, but you summed that up pretty perfectly – those were pretty much my exact thoughts, so no need for me to go into detail there. XD With Grace changing for the better, however, it makes sense that we would see Simon go darker. Interesting how she was the one who started him on that path, yet in the end, HE turned out to be much more overzealous about it. I’m kind of disappointed that we never learned anything about Simon’s life before the train. Seems like a lot of what shaped him into who he is happened ON the train… so WHY was he on the train in the first place (his initial number did seem to be pretty low)? Also, I won’t lie… as bad as Simon was, I really didn’t enjoy seeing him die like that. ESPECIALLY after seeing him as a little kid running away from that exact same monster. I don’t know… maybe I just try TOO hard to see good in people… XD I will say though… even if we removed empathy from the equation, I still don’t think I would have liked seeing Simon die. When it comes to characters like him – ones who do bad things while always being thoroughly convinced they’re in the right – I always feel like death is the easy way out, because that way, they’ve never had to confront themselves. Introducing just the slightest bit of doubt to their stupid, narrow worldview is, in my opinion, the best kind of punishment for someone like that. Maybe that will cause them to change, and maybe it won’t, but either way, I tend to find their reaction to that far more satisfying than seeing them die without ever having to question their beliefs. That’s just a personal thing of mine though. XD I REALLY hope they make more of this. It’s such a cool and fascinating show! And like you said, there are some plot threads I want to see get wrapped up, like Hazel & Amelia’s stories (maybe they could be the MCs of Season 4, if there is one), and Grace’s continuing journey to becoming a better person. Also, I was kind of surprised we never saw One One this season, considering how much he was on both Grace & Simon’s minds. I don’t know if I would have watched this series if you hadn’t started reacting to it, so thank you, Alycia! It was a great journey! Favourite Quotes: “I’m an inventor, an engineer, a snappy dresser…” – Amelia “So, my memories are real until you don’t like what they show?” – Grace “Oh, this is not good!” – Apex kids “This is the last thing I ever wanted, but we know the truth, and I can’t ignore it. We’re all on the train for different reasons, but it’s unfair for me to tell you how to understand yourself. I mean… I don’t even fully understand me.” – Grace

Loved reading this mate! Brilliant insight and well said about Simon too!

I hope you're doing alright, Alycia. So much for a better 2021 🤦🏻‍♂️ 6 days in and already the capitol and white house were stormed and Dr. Dre's in the hospital. This ain't it 🙅🏻‍♂️❌ Stay safe

Well, I think this season, even though dark, and I mean dark(almost made me do a few double takes here and there) I think it was a fitting end to the season. I feel like there is going to be a season 4 buy instead of fan fics,(Even Undertale has a whole lot of those, and the rabbit hole is...big and wide) maybe in comic book form? There is still a few things we don't know about the train, and maybe Amelia and Hazel will explore some that history?

Jordan

Dudes I have honestly not stopped thinking about that last episode since I watched it, that was such a phenomenal piece of television🌟 That ending really hit different for me and just exceeded any expectations I had for this season. I just wanna thank everyone again who suggested this show because I had literally never even heard it’s name before this channel😭💜

After seeing this finale, it’s hard for me to imagine it ending any other way! And I guess I didn’t consciously realize all 3 seasons have had female protagonists... HOORAY REPRESENTATION 😭🙏💛 And if we get a season 4, I bet it will be about Amelia or Hazel who are both strong female characters as well!

alyciadweeb

Ah, yes! I was hoping someone else would bring up that moment right after Simon pushed Grace! The range of emotion that showed on his face was terrifying and heartbreaking. What he was dealing with emotionally was so much deeper than what we saw in these 10 episodes. And I love that IT didn’t feel the need to baby us and spell it out for us either. We saw just enough of his journey and development to understand why he did the things he did, even if they weren’t right.

That close-up of Simon was one of the most telling moments of his character in the entire season, and they portrayed it without saying a single word. I’m mad at myself for forgetting to discuss it in my review because it really was just an incredible shot. I got chills too!!!!! And omg Jordan 😭🙏❤️✨ That is amazing and trust me, it’s been an equal joy on my end having you here! Thank you for your kind words... I would say they make my job worth it, but I love this job so I suppose they give my job meaning, which is more than I could ever ask for as a YouTuber. Cheers to many more amazing episodes of amazing shows! 🥂

I totally agree with you that it would have been unrealistic to see both Grace and Simon get off the train by the end of this season. I think the way these 10 episodes panned out was way more satisfying than another “get off the train” plot. IT has managed to keep each season fresh and exciting and I (fingers crossed) can’t wait to see what they do with season 4! I also agree that Simon’s death was hard to watch. It was disturbing on a number of levels and ,agreeing with you again lol, didn’t really give Simon the comeuppance he deserved. That being said, I do think seeing him die in the end served as a really beautiful metaphor for this entire season. At a certain point, if you’ve closed yourself off to new thoughts and experiences, in a sense you’re already dead. Thank YOU for watching the show with me! As always, it made it 100x more fun watching and discussing it with you guys than it would have been watching by myself ☺️💛

alyciadweeb

Ugh thank you so much fsb :/ Yeah this year’s off to a rocky start lol, but I am staying safe! And trying to be cautiously optimistic lol!

alyciadweeb

I totally agree Julian. I think if the ending to this season wasn’t just as dark as the rest of it, it would have felt out of place. As hard as it was to watch, it served as an effective ending to a force of a season. And OMG I would be so down for an Infinity Train comic book! I think the world of IT could really stay alive that way, even though my fingers are still crossed for another tv season!

alyciadweeb

Same!!!!! If it weren’t for the channel and our dweebdom I would have never known about this show! And the impact it’s had on my life is significant. I feel so grateful to have found it too!

Well the show did it again I did end up liking Grace at least to a degree. However to me this was the most predictable season, as soon as I saw Hazel and that her number wasn't lit up I was like alright either she just drew it on or whatever but no doubt she is a denizen and Grace builds a relationship with her and she's going to find out about it and then protect her to make her realize oh denizens are people too and shouldn't be dismissed. Of course I could have been completely wrong but I wasn't. After the first two episodes I said I prefer Simon and I just hate Grace and I did wonder if the journey of the train will make me like Grace and hate Simon although I had no strong conviction about it my brain just always analyses stuff from a storytelling perspective and I mean I didn't like Simon but I didn't have utter contempt for him. So from a storytelling perspective it's a neat "magic trick" if you can reverse the viewers feelings about the two main characters. It's a risky move but if you do it well there's almost nothing that can impact you more on an emotional level as that. They didn't do a perfect job with it but they did it incredibly well. I did have a few gripes with it but minor ones. Like Grace has been on the train for years and must have met thousands of adorable characters and only now that she met Hazel does she flip on a dime and develops empathy? I mean sure the fact that she thought she was a passenger helped that because Grace didn't just shut down emotionally but that didn't sit well with me 100%. And I thought that Simon was a bit of a Zealot in the beginning but I thought it was basically Grace's influence that he spouted those rules and stuff and acted rashly on them. And I mean I was right but I felt like his turn from being basically like a pushover, lovesick puppy follower into megalomaniacal nutjob felt a bit rushed and unwarranted. I mean sure the end kinda makes sense because he looked like at least 2-3 years older and just being in an echochamber with your crazy thoughts and only a bunch of kids around you who never challenge you probably won't make a positive impact on your sanity. xD But I enjoyed what they wanted to do with the story so the few little imperfections are fine. I actually enjoyed this season a lot even tho it might not sound like it lol. The fact that I'm even giving it this much thought is high praise actually there's so many shows I just watch and enjoy at facevalue and then 6 months later I don't even remember that I watched it until it pops up somewhere like Netflix and I'm like oh yeah that exists and I watched it. This show is so much better than that the whole time I'm watching my brain is simulating a thousand different outcomes with each new fact that is revealed and that is the mark of a great show because I'm not only experiencing everything they do show us but also every other scenario that I came up with in my mind has an emotional impact. So yeah I'm glad I pushed through I suspected it would be great and it was! Now I can finally start with season 4 hehe.
