Familiar Taste Reference Sheets (Patreon)

Here are all 3 reference sheets used throughout the making of Familiar Taste! Each one slowly built off the other, getting us the last reference (which perfectly encapsulated what we were going for)!

The first reference was made just to get the main concept across. Legoshi is bigger & more buff, and Louis has a more feminine physique with the tattoo beautifully designed by Spiced Popsicle! The main reasoning behind why this original concept of the characters was scrapped was due to how generic they came across. Like yes, it's Legoshi and Louis, but that's all you'd think when you saw them. Not, oh, that's the more mature variants of the characters by that fruity furry artist Thendyart. It lacked any sort of style in my eyes, so, I went back to the drawing board!

The second reference was WAY more stylized. Legoshi actually looked older, Louis felt more fem, and they each felt unique, unlike the first concept. I made sure their clothing was more personable than originally planned as well. Louis has the more noticeable references within his outfit, with his fit taking inspiration from his suit featured in Season 2 of the anime, and his glasses being a nod to his adoptive father. The main reasoning behind the change from this reference to the final was mostly due to Louis's color pallet and yet another style change! Overall I still love these variants of the character, but the final version is by far the superior and most accurate interpretation I was shooting for when writing this story.

Finally, the last reference sheet! Everything is finally ironed out, both Legoshi and Louis have their correct color pallet, their body types have been refined even more to fit this "5 years later" headcanon my husband and I created, and it matches the current iteration of my art style! Immediately stepping away from drawing this final variant I knew THIS was exactly what I wanted my version of these characters to look like. Though I plan to sprinkle info throughout future projects of these characters, I will let those who've read this far know that Legoshi is built the way he is due to his profession, which is going under Gohin's wing and helping carnivores in need. Going as far as setting up his own rehabilitation place on the outskirts of the black market. Louis on the other hand has embraced his femininity shortly after the events of Beastars and wears his bisexuality on his sleeve. I can't say much more than that in regards to Louis at the moment, though I'm sure you'll be able to understand why towards the end of Familiar Taste 1...
