These started out mostly as just simple for fun drawings but then I got a little bit more involved after adding fills and the halftone.

Still exploring that character from the other day a little bit. I find myself kinda swimming around stylistically lately. I find myself always in a tug of war between Japanese influences and European influences. Lately on one side of the rope is Rumiko Takahashi and on the other is Milo Manara.

I think one of the most uncomfortable compromises an artist has to make on a regular basis is "budgeting" your effort. I want to make drawings that communicate just enough of the things I care about without going overboard so I end up feeling shackled to a project.

I really love making full color comics but I'm going to try to hold myself to a monotone or duotone look for whatever's next.

I like the way you utilize a simpler color palette here. I understand the budgeting of time and resources as a frustration, though it's cool to see the ways you can convey detail with as few colors as possible. Also find it interesting to listen to you discuss your process. Very much looking forward to seeing what you will do this coming month!

Well if we're talking about Rumiko Takahashi I would love to see you tackle Lum (what with the new Urusei Yatsura and all).

God I'm so enamoured with this character/idea. I'm so glad you've been feeling motivated to explore it further and I can't wait to see what comes next. 🥰

I think that finding measures to save time or achieve a feeling of complexity with less information is what I love most in my art, so in that way I should feel grateful for the budget 😂 I'm glad my process ramblings can be interesting to other people too!

Ahh ♥️♥️Bowie I'm glad you're enjoying it too! Feels like a fresh start

Love that style, so I would be more than happy to get more! And more of this character too 👀 I think feelings, gesture , expressions etc are more important than polish, and I bet it's freeing to create faster this way.

I've drawn with halftone a lot in the past and have always wondered if incorporating it into my art now would be too much of a style departure.

wintonkidd

I don't think so! I feel like since you work with limited palettes halftone would feel like a pretty natural extension. We both are kinda referential of print media in that way.

♥️ thank you Wuff! I know there's a sweet spot if I can only find it😤 it's not even that I draw particularly slowly it's just that in my mind moves much faster 😂
