Welcome to our ’Reviews’ collection.

We are so excited today to welcome back Knitability's wonderful editor, Jenn Keeler for the start of a regular series of reviews. Once a month until December, Jenn will join us for a review special. She starts with a yarn colourway dyed by Birdstreet Yarn in the UK and inspired by something she knows and loves rather a lot.....

Join Jenn as she:

  • Introduces you to a sock knitted in Birdstreet Yarn

  • Talks you through how the yarn was available to purchase

  • Discusses pricing and value for money

  • Takes a look at a textured sock pattern knitted with the yarn and talks through what type of patterns would suit it better

  • Looks at the dye job and analyses whether pooling is evident

  • Discusses her opinion on the yarn base

Nice work on the review! You are a great addition to the BB team.❤️ Thank you for discussing the ridiculous shipping charges. It appears to be primarily the UK. I buy yarn regularly from Germany and Ireland and the prices from countries in the EU are less than half of the UK. I just bought yarn from a UK dyer that was $17 for a 100g skein costing $24. When it arrived the package said 11 pound (which is more like $13. It also said the package was 250 grams. I weighed it and with the packaging and enclosed yarn with label and receipt was 102g. I won’t be buying from the UK until these costs come down.

The yarn is gorgeous. I buy international yarns and bags often and have found the price range to be about $10-$15. I also usually buy enough to make that shipping cost worth it. Smart move to buy yarn with your friend.

Thanks so much, Patricia! It's exciting to be here :) I've had some interesting shipping experiences with Canada, as well, but depending on the dyer, sometimes they will offer a refund to make up for the exchange rate. I wonder if any of that it at play here, as well. I've got some other yarn from the UK on my list to review and the shipping costs have truly been hit or miss. I worry that this is just going to be the way of things.
