Welcome to our brand new historical adventure series 'England: A Castle Nation'!

Over the next ten episodes, join Dan on an adventure which will take us across the North of England. Have you ever wondered how some of us got our surnames? Or perhaps why so many of us shop in supermarkets? How did so many of us come to live in brick houses? Or why were beds invented? The answers to all these questions and so much more can be found in the story of castles.

In this series join Dan as he visits some of his favourite castles and uncovers their story. Along the way he also delves deeply into one of Englands most famous dynasties, 'The Tudors'. These extended editions of the series are available in full to our Gold & Platinum Patrons.

This year we have strived to improve our audio and visual quality. With great regret one of our old microphones failed during this shoot. Thankfully we capture audio twice on all location shoots just in case of a problem, but the quality of the audio in just a few shots of Dan on location is not to our usual standard.  We offer our sincere apologies for this and rest assured we have now rectified this problem. The audio on the rest of the series will not be effected, it should in fact be of a higher standard!

In this episode in the series join Dan as he:

  • Visits The River Swale in Yorkshire and uncovers the story behind the castle

  • Takes a walk along the river to discover the story of Alfred the Great & Edward the Confessor

  • Visits Richmond Castle and takes a tour of the grounds

Thank you. So much information in one episode. Even down to the plain and fancy arches over the doorway.

Thank you, Dan, from Philadelphia! I have been interested in British history since my early teens, back when William I was still putting one stone on top of another! 😉 My family was from West Yorkshire and we still keep in touch with my *third* cousins who now live in North Wales. Thank you for helping me keep in touch with our common heritage.
