Welcome to our ‘Perfect Cake’ series.

It's time for a brand new adventure. Once a month we're taking you all on a 'Quest for the Perfect Cake'. We are going to visit 12 different cake shops and sample their fare.

Each episode, starting today, you'll join us as we try a different slice of cake. We're looking for:

  • Anything sweet that you can slice
  • A cake that is light and tasty
  • Something with lots of flavour

We'll then head back to our mobile 'Cake HQ' and score what we have sampled. Perfection will be rewarded with the ultimate 'Bakery Bear' 5 stars, anything less than perfection and we'll take away a star. We start the quest today in what is considered to be the epicentre of cakes in Yorkshire, Betty's Tea Rooms.

This concludes the series so far, we had hoped to bring it back after Christmas 2019 when the weather improved. But the world wide Covid-19 pandemic has currently put paid to that plan. This series has now finished.

Great first episode! Fyi - a torte is a specific kind of cake with multi-layers.

18 pounds is 24 USD and that's more than what I would pay for here for dried up, mass-produced cake. The coffee may have been worth it in a fancy restaurant, but at least you had the chance to get some real food with that good coffee. Not putting Betty's on my UK visit bucket list. :-)
