Good afternoon everyone!!

The Summer of Stitching 2024 is fast approaching and as promised I am delighted today to let you know everything you will need to take part in this years spectacular event. We will also confirm the start and end dates for each course.

This years event is inspired by Jane Austen, we spoke about each course in our latest Patron Exclusive Show which you can watch here https://www.patreon.com/posts/patron-exclusive-103206488

First of all, let's deal with everything you will need to take part. The list will detail the type of fabric/yarn and brands I used but you can of course vary this to suit your preferences. As long as you have the same weight of yarn or fabric type then you will be fine.

Project 1 - The Austen Bag

  • 2 pieces of linen/linen blend fabric in size 12 inches x 8 inches - I used Robert Kaufman Essex yarn dyed linen in Taupe.

  • 2 pieces of linen/linen blend fabric in size 10.5 inches x 10.5 inches - I used Robert Kaufman Essex dyed linen in Taupe.

  • 2 pieces of linen/linen blend fabric in size 10.5 inches x 5 inches. I used Robert Kaufman Essex dyed linen in Cinnamon.

  • 2 pieces of linen/linen blend fabric in size 10 inches x 2.5 inches.  I used Robert Kaufman Essex dyed linen in Cinnamon.

  • 2 pieces of fusible fleece in size 12 inches x 12 inches. I used Vilene (now Vlieseline) H640.

  • Fabric scraps or set of fabrics for slow stitching. If using scraps they should be at least 2.5 inches square. I used a mini charm pack from Moda called Lydia’s Lace 1840-1880.

  • 2 metres of ribbon or cord for drawstring. I used a vintage lace ribbon in a cream colour, 12mm in width which was perfect.

  • Diamond paper template in size 1.75 inches. I used a pack by Dritz Quilting that I purchased from Amazon. You will only need a few so you can make your own if you prefer.

  • Hand sewing needle of your choice.

  • Hand sewing thread for slow stitching - I used Aurifil no. 12 in Marrakesh.

  • Small sharp scissors.

  • A safety pin for ease of inserting the drawstring.

  • A fabric glue pen - I like Sewline (this is not essential but is very helpful).

  • Fabric pen - I used Pilot Frixion.

  • A sewing machine - I threaded mine with a beige coloured thread as this seemed more in keeping than a bright white.

Project 2 - Jane’s Mitts

  • DK weight yarn in 2 colours. I used Blacker Yarns Blacker Swan DK in shades Teaberry and Sand. 50g (approx. 110m) of each will be plenty. Your yarn should be solid or tonal. I wouldn’t recommend anything variegated as I don’t feel this fits with the project and theme. You can use a commercial yarn or hand dyed.

  • 3.5 mm needles - I used a 80cm circular for magic loop, but you can use double points if you prefer.

  • Tapestry needle and 1 stitch marker.

Now we'll cover when each course takes place and confirm who can access them.

  • Kay will run a three part slow stitching tutorial series commencing on the 4th of June and concluding on the 11th of June 2024 - This tutorial series is available free to Bronze, Radio Show Listener, Silver, Gold & Platinum Patrons

  • Kay will then take that slow stitching and show you how to turn it into a gorgeous drawer string bag. This four part tutorial series will run from the 2nd of July till the 16th of July 2024 - This tutorial series is available free to Silver, Gold & Platinum Patrons

  • Finally Kay will share with you this years exclusive 'Summer of Stitching' pattern, 'Janes Mitts'. Along with this pattern we will run a four part tutorial series showing you how to knit them. The course will commence on the 1st of August and conclude on the 27th of August 2024. - This tutorial series is available free to Silver, Gold & Platinum Patrons

I hope you all enjoy gathering your supplies, and we look forward to seeing you in June for the start of this years wonderful event!

Hugs

Kay xx

Quick question Do we need a lining fabric Kay? I've got my eye on something pretty 😊 but wasn't sure as it's not the list? X

The Bakery Bears

Hi Michele, the lining fabric is the second fabric listed above. So the second bullet in the post IS the lining. I'll copy it here so you dont need to go looking but this is just copied from the above '2 pieces of linen/linen blend fabric in size 10.5 inches x 10.5 inches - I used Robert Kaufman Essex dyed linen in Taupe' - x
