I'm looking forward to getting into this one :) Yes, I believe I heard this was supposed to take off into a new series, but it didn't happen. Maybe to be a springboard for the young actress who makes an appearance in the episode. I was wondering if you might recognize her. It took me a few scenes before I did that double take and said, "Is that Teri Garr?!" RIP to her.

You are correct, this was a pilot for a new series because Star Trek was supposed to end because of poor ratings. However because of severe backlash from the fan base, they went on to season 3.
