I heard from a friend that read the manga that the hawks being a double double agent wasn't revealed until the end of the arc so you go through the whole season thinking he's a traitor. It made the big reveal so much more impact full but I still love the way they get us in the anime as well

I would say the look boy is part of this episode's Fairy Tail reference because Endeavor's second son's name is natsuo but his nickname is natsu which is the of main character in Fairy Tail who who is a boy with pink hair
