I was a little frustrated with this episode when it aired. We're right in the middle of an arc, and they decide to Naruto right in the middle of it.

Yea, as others have said, this is setting up the My Hero Academia movie, Two Heroes. It's really good and takes place right before the training camp with the Pussy Cats.

Btw, The reason this episode was right in the middle of the License Exam arc is that they wanted to air it on a special holiday in Japan. I think there might have been a charity thing going on, but I could be wrong about that part.

I know you said you were thinking about doing the movies after the series, but d HIGHLY recommend you watch the movies as you watch the series, because the movies take place canonically in between episodes and seasons. The first movie, ‘Two Hero’s’ takes place before the Wild Wild Pussy Cats training arc in season 3. It’s so so good.

You just watched a promo for a boku no hero movie: two heroes, it came out at the time this was airing, that's why they included the special episode, as far as i know the movie is not Canon, but it's really cool

Even though the movies are not canon, I really enjoyed them. It proves that even if they are technically filler, it is still My Hero so it will be Plus Ultra entertainment.
