The story of Zukos mom was done in a graphic novel called "The Search." You can either listen to dramatic tellings of it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxrFFip7LEI, or just find the entire comic and read it on your own. Its on so many websites! https://comiconlinefree.net/comic/nickelodeon-avatar-the-last-airbender-the-search Its amazing! So emotional and beautiful.

Ok, Imma be a dick but how many animals did Ozai killed with that fire or how many Fire nation soldiers died because of the falling airships? Because Ozai's life worth much more than those who Aang ignored or killed indirectly. They didn't show it because it's a kids show, but it is certain that there were people and animals losing their life during the last battle wich Aang ignored and that makes Aang a giant hypocrite in my eyes. If you think it other way then that's your thing, but this is my opinion.

I recently saw someone talking about Zuko's breaking Aang out of jail as the Blue Spirit; and the guy covering it reacted to Aang blasting a Fire Nation soldier down a 10ft ladder with air-bending like "can we all accept that that guy is dead? like, it's clear that Aang just committed murder, right? There's no way that guy survived that" P.S. This isn't an indictment of Aang killing people, self-defense is always a valid point, but I'm pretty sure Aang didn't go back to check if that guy got appropriate medical attention lol

What a great time watching your reactions to this show! We've got mixed feelings about Korra but book 1 is pretty good!

Lol, a lot more people died at Aang's hands than that. How many people died on the airship Aang shot down? Or taking it way back to the end of book 1, how many people died when Aang went all Ocean Spirit at the North Pole and attacked the Fire Nation fleet?

With this amazing show at its end I hope to see you cover Made in Abyss some time in the future. Though having a emotional break before getting into Made in abyss would be wise. :)

ahh it just occured to me after watching some jojo's, but Aang is the Avatar of ZA WARUDO!!! lol

On some level I wish He had killed Ozai. I get he has personal hang ups but I feel like the show gave him a free get out of hard choice card that he did not deserve. It was too neat and easy for him. There is a massive moral choice here between doing what the world needs and holding to his ideals even if doing so ends up being the worse outcome, and how does that inform your choices when it's you who has the ultimate responsibility to restore balance to the world. When going against your ideals is the only way to serve your duty to the world what do you do? I don't think the show answered that question, but side stepped it and gave him a way out.

I waited to watch the last 4 in one go and it was great coming to the end of this rewatch along with you Alicia. It also added to the experience in certain ways, like there are the moments that everyone cries in Avatar, such as with "Leaves on the vine, falling so slow" or when Zuko and Iroh reunite, but your fear for Aang that he was losing his way and himself was so strong that in the moment when it looks like he's going to do a coup de grace on Ozai I felt the tears threatening to well up just because it was hitting you so hard and you were so scared. Thanks again for sharing the experience with us, and taking us along on the journey with you. I won't say anything to spoil Korra, but I am just going to note if you haven't watched anything from there yet, it is about a different Avatar in another life, so don't be too surprised by that. And also, you noting that that this was the last time you'd hear the intro makes me really look forward to seeing how you react to and like the intro for Korra. I'm looking forward to going on that journey together too. In the meantime I hope you're well, and we get to do Korra and some other series that I'm looking forward to, like Vinland Saga, before too long.😃

FYI The story of Zuko's mother is addressed in the comics. Also there are Avatar comics if you didn't know. One of the things about Aang not killing the Fire Lord is that there is something more important than simply Aang being true to himself. There was not just a clash of nations, but also a clash pf philosophies and culture, and the Fire Nation's destructive and violent actions was trying to wipe out not just the Air Nomads people, but their whole culture and philosophy. If Aang had decided to kill the Fire Lord, he would have not just given up on his own beliefs, but he would have been admitting that the Air Nomad philosophy and way of life, the view of life as sacred and being against killing, was wrong. It would have been the very last Air Nomad giving up his own culture's beliefs and submitting to the same violence it stood against. This was not just Aang acting as himself, but a refusal of him letting the very nature and spirit of the Air Nomads die in this world and in his heart. That is why his spirit was incorruptable, and unbendable.

That's all manslaughter at most, though. Aang had a choice in killing Ozai and sent a far more powerful message to the world by leaving him alive.

I mean it works for politicans sparring all the rich and powerfull people and let the small people die.

The comics that take place after this and before Korra are kinda like the unofficial book 4 of ATLA. I believe they cover a lot of events and character arcs that the creators themselves would have originally put in book 4 if it were ever animated (feel free to correct me on this), so it's by no means just some spinoff written just to tie up the few loose ends from book 3...I mean it does kinda do that, but it does cover a lot of new stuff too 😅

Crow

i hope you continue with korra

and thus the curtain sets on this tale once again. i have to say, it still holds up after all these years. it's sad that all the negativity drove you off of korra, or at least stopped you from reacting, but at least you got to experience this story in all of its glory. i know i'm a bit late to the party, but let me thank you for reacting to this masterprice nonetheless. I honestly enjoyed hearing your thoughts and your insight regarding the story and characters. keep it up.
