(Since the whole show has been watched I'll put the comment here as this is where the point of contention is) The thing about Tragedies is that knowing what happens isn't what pulls people into the story, it's how it's told / what happens. Plastic Memories and Cyberpunk Edgerunners are both good examples of tragedies, and with Plastic Memories the whole premise of the show is the spoiler. (Android funeral service romance tragedy, guy falls in love with android) you know what happens insanely early / before the show even starts, but because that's not the focus of the writing, it doesn't matter whether you "Figure it out", it's how broken you feel when it happens. So of course, looking at Cyberpunk Edgerunners through the lens of an Action-Scifi, I would agree and understand Alicia's point of contention, but because it's a Tragedy at heart, the contention is misplaced/misguided. Since I've seen the thumbnails for the later episodes, I presume she changes her thoughts on it, learning more what kind of story is being written.

Oh god, you talking about how lovable Pilar is at the beginning of this episode lmfao

Zeallust

Yeah, David's death is heavily foreshadowed, but its also to be expected in this world. You, jumping in entirely blind, I can understand why youd take issue with it. But no hero has ever survived Night City. Cyberpunk is a very old franchise (1988) and has always taken place in this city, so those of us in the know, or even that just played the game, knew it would go down like that before the anime even came out. So while you see it as talking down to or disrespecting the audience, was actually respecting the audience's ability to know theres no happy endings in this city.

All that said, David does accomplish everything he sets out to do. He makes it to the top of Arasaka tower, like his mom wanted. He takes care of his crew and family, like Maine wanted. He takes Lucy to the moon, like he promised. He never goes cyberpsycho, like Lucy wanted. The kicker is that he accomplished EVERYTHING he wanted to, except not in the way those people meant. Even the promises he made to himself he accomplishes, but again, not the way he meant.

Some contests you would have no reason to have. All the games in the Cyberpunk setting are about how the runes go out in a blaze of glory of fad away. Fad away can mean a lot of things, joining a gang and becoming just a northern thug, taking a corporate job and becoming just a northern thug, becoming a fixer, getting captured by your engines and imprisoned not dead but not able to live, or just growing back to civilian life, or most likely dying in an unimpressive way on an unimportant job. No one survives Night City, it takes your life or your sole often both

Well i dont think Lucy foreshadowed any more than the Intro Music, and the visuals. David being on fire, braking apart as he is running. And cyberpunk is not a setting with an optimistic outlook in the future.

Zerodeus

You're the first person I've seen to get attached to Pilar by that point, I sort of agree, he's not a good person but he is the comic relief of the team, so that scene basically makes the series darker automatically.

NGL, your breakdown of the character blocking for the last scene made me slap that join button. Such great attention to details!

:D thank you so much!! it feels so great to be able to talk about what I'm passionate about and have others enjoy it too

Nakama Forever

I thought the anime just just ok up to this point. However, this episode made me realize how good this show is. Also, i freaking love the english voice of Rebecca ❤️

I know this is a couple months late, but I just found your channel. The foreshadowing at the end I don't think was insulting to anime viewers. The world of Cyberpunk is that everyone gets eaten by Night City, it's just whether you go out in a blaze of glory or not being remembered. It's obvious what's gonna happen in this anime pretty early on, even without this foreshadowing.

tbh I changed my perspective a lot on it later on in the series because the execution of the deaths made was incredible. I didn't think a 10 episode series could do characters justice like that. This series was for sure my top two this year along side chainsaw man :D
