I liked this much better than last ep. Some of the gaps (Laenor/Rhaenyra) got filled in a little. But ugh my girl Alicent spiraling 😩 I feel like some really great drama is set up, so I’m excited!

The bit with Corlys and Rhaenys was really interesting to me. On one hand, it speaks to the importance and validity of adopted family. Corlys knows full well what blood runs in those boys veins, but blood doesn't matter. He knows that his son made his choice about his kids, wither he told him or not, and accepts it. He accepts those boys and he loves them. He chooses to love them. In a world obsessed with blood, he's showing that bonds and relationships matter just as much, if not more. Adopted children deserve the same place, love and respect as birth children. It's a lesson that many parts of this world could do with learning as well. On the other side of it, it also shows the ingrained mysogony in place in this world. Women aren't allowed to have their own names, only the names of their fathers and husbands. They can't have their own legacies, they can only contribute to the legacies of the men around them. Baela doesn't have Corlys' name, she has her father's name. She can only push forward his legacy, not Corlys'. It shows a hypocrisy in Corlys, because by pushing for Rhaenys to be queen, he's really pushing for himself to be king and for House Velaryon to be the big name in Westeros. If she had ascended, she would be followed by King Laenor Velaryon, not Laenor Targareyon (or even Queen Laena since we don't know which twin was born first). He wants his legacy to be having his house be the ruling name in the kingdom. It's not about Rhaenys rights, it's about his ambitions. It shows that, in the end, Corlys isn't really any more progressive or open minded than any of the other lords of Westeros, he's just taking a different path that, he hopes, will reach the same desired outcome of every other man in this world. His name in metaphorical blinding lights on the Iron Throne. So he backs the boys with the name and not the girls with the blood, just like what happened to Rhaenys at the great council. On a side note that's partly why I'm more of a black than a green. Although Rhaenyra has some serious flaws and Alicent is just a broken product of this vicious system, I would rather back someone who is at least trying to create their own legacy. Alicent isn't pushing for her own legacy or even for that of her son's. She's pushing for her father's, even if she doesn't realize it. King Aegon would be Otto Hightowers dream legacy come true, and he'd probably push his daughter to one side if it ever came to be.
