The results are in from the Patron votes!

The winner of the ASOIAF topic vote is the Blackfyre Rebellions. We've already mentioned the First Blackfyre Rebellion in the Sworn Sword video, and we'll cover the Second Rebellion in the Mystery Knight video. The Blackfyre Rebellions video will tell the full story of all five rebellions, from Aegon the Unworthy and Daemon I, Bloodraven and Bittersteel, Maelys the Monstrous and the Ninepenny Kings, to the Golden Company and Young Griff and beyond. It’ll be a really cool video, and a nice continuation of the Dunk & Egg series. Maybe we’ll follow it up with a video about the tragedy at Summerhall… There'll be more votes on Patreon to choose future ASOIAF topics.

The winner of the new series vote is Dune. Dune is one of the greatest and strangest sci fi stories ever, and with the movie coming out in 2021, now is the perfect time to jump in. I’ve gotta confess – I haven’t read Dune before. And I know it’s super deep and dense. So it’ll take some time this year to read, study up, and do it justice. I figure we’ll do a spoiler-free primer video before the movie comes out, then a big Dune Explained video after the movie. And maybe more Dune videos after that, exploring the sequels and wider mythos…

The second most popular topic is non-fiction. I’m thrilled that so many of you liked the disaster and religion video – and I’d love to make more videos about real-world history, mythology, philosophy, and more. So I think we’ll make a video about the planet Venus – from ancient myths to science fiction to space exploration to recent discoveries. Non-fiction videos take a lot of reading and research, so don’t expect it any time soon – but I think it'll be a really cool video.

The third most popular topic is His Dark Materials, and I do love that series – so we’ll probably make a video comparing S1E01 to the books, and if that goes well, we could potentially do more. Maybe something similar for The Boys, if there’s time. The Expanse also did well in the vote, and Season 5 is airing now – so I’d like to make another Expanse video or two, to release with the S5 finale.

So in 2021, we'll keep making ASOIAF videos, and cover new series. We'll do the Blackfyre Rebellions, and Dune, and some non-fiction. We'll probably do some His Dark Materials, and The Expanse, and whatever other cool new shows come up. In the years to come, we'll cover the Game of Thrones prequel show, Westworld Season 4, Raised by Wolves Season 2... and hopefully, one day, The Winds of Winter.

2020 was the first year after the end of Game of Thrones, and I didn’t know if the Alt Shift X channel would survive. Would people still want to watch Alt Shift X videos after GOT Season 8? I'm so grateful that you guys are still here, watching both our ASOIAF videos and the new stuff. With your support, Alt Shift X will continue for a while yet :)
