Alt Shift X 2018 (Patreon)

2017 was a big year for Alt Shift X. We made some of our best analysis videos ever – Cersei, Jaime, Rhaegar, the Grand Northern Conspiracy. Some cool lore videos, like Aegon’s Conquest and Valyrian steel. We survived a tumultuous GOT Season 7, with weekly Patron livestreams as well as the episode breakdowns. There was also, inexplicably, Game of Bones, Alt Schwift X and Alt Shift ZZZ.

We’ve now got these Game of Thrones videos down to a fine art. They’re painstakingly researched and written (and rewritten, and rewritten) with hundreds of citations in each script. The visual compositions are intricate mosaic mind-maps, lovingly crafted from an enormous library of GOT media (8000 individually keyworded timestamped clips and images). And we’ve even figured out how to pronounce “Viserys” properly.

We’ve now made 65 GOT videos – 13 hours long in total. And there are many more cool GOT vids to make – like analyses of Bloodraven, Bran, Sansa, Brienne, Theon, Euron, Melisandre. Robert’s Rebellion, the Blackfyre rebellions, the Dance of the Dragons. The doom of Valyria, Hardhome, the pink letter, House Dayne, Patchface. These are the sorts of GOT vids we'll make in 2018, using your feedback to choose topics – a new vote is now open for $3+ Patrons!

But it’s a long dark off-season between now and GOT Season 8 – not to mention the ever elusive Winds of Winter. And there are actually, y’know, rather a lot of other great series, movies, and even the real world(?!) to talk about. So now’s a good time to try out some non-GOT stuff. In October’s Patron survey, you guys were most keen for a Westworld video – so we’re now working on an analysis of Westworld Season 1. A Mother movie analysis may also happen, and Black Mirror episode breakdowns would be cool... and maybe something on the Netflix series Dark?

So 2018 will be a mix of old and new. We’ll keep doing great GOT videos, as ever. And we’ll try out new kinds of videos, on new series. This’ll give Alt Shift X plenty of cool stuff to talk about through the next year and beyond (:
