Apologies for the lack of a bonus video last weekend. I promised myself I wouldn't let the process of selling my home and moving to a new one impact my output. And yet! I let that one video slip. Oh, woe. The shame. The humiliation.

Anyway, I'll post two this weekend to make up for it.

Today, we have another Famimaga Video. It's weird how they keep regurgitating some of the same promo material over and over again, but I have to assume that's down to sponsorships and the fact that Bandai didn't have any new material besides SD Gundam Capsule Heroes. Typical Bandai, phoning it in.

There is some cool stuff here, though. Love the CES report, which doesn't deliver much in the way of game material but does showcase some fantastic trade show footage in which everyone looks as 1989 as you could possibly imagine. And the Famicom commercial ranking feature at the end includes some really cool commercials that I had never seen before.

As always, I wish I had stumbled across Famimaga Video and these other VHS tapes I've been digitizing sooner. They'd have made for some incredible B-roll in some of the NES Works episodes I've already completed. Alas! Hindsight is something-something.

Famimaga Video Issue 10 [March 1990] VHS Rip

The antepenultimate issue of Famimaga Video arrives, taking us up to spring 1990. There's another live event report here—in this case, a look at Winter CES 1990. Feels like a missed opportunity, though... the CES report only touches on a few games, and the majority of them are of Japanese origin. You'd think this would be a chance to showcase all the weird, wild import stuff from overseas that would never make it across the Japan, but I guess Japanese publications didn't cover American trade events the way American publications covered Japanese trade events. Which, if we're being frank here, is all to their credit. Perhaps more interesting is the closing feature here, which showcases the magazine's pick of best Famicom commercials of all time. Given that the entire concept of Famimaga Video was basically a big ol' commercial for recent releases, this seems like a case of game recognizing game. 0:38 Contents 1:20 Feature: PC Engine vs. Mega Drive 1:26 Golden Axe 4:48 After Burner 8:03 Game Boy trailer 8:34 Madara trailer 8:49 Ganbare Goemon Gaiden trailer 9:03 Previews 9:12 Megami Tensei II 12:00 Wizardry III: Knight of Diamonds 14:06 SD Battle Gundam Ozumo 16:05 Nobunaga’s Ambition II 18:06 Download 20:54 Splatterhouse 23:56 SD Gundam - SD Sengokuden: Kunitori Monogatari 26:00 Akuma-Kun: Makai no Wana trailer 26:14 DragonBall 3 trailer 26:29 SD Gundam Capsule Senki trailer 26:49: CES Report 27:29 Thunder Force III 28:48 Moonwalker 29:18 Phelios 29:57 Eyecatch / Ultra Technique 30:07 Fist of the North Star 3 30:31 Yuuyuuki 30:46 Twinbee 3 31:01 Tashiro Masashi no Princess ga Ippai 31:09 World Super Tennis 31:20 Golf-kko Open 31:36 Baseball Simulator 1.000 31:43 PC Engine Fan Ul-Tech Wonder Land 31:45 Kagami no Kuni no Legend 32:20 Bari Bari Densetsu 32:26 Super Albatross 32:32 USA Pro Basketball 32:42 Doraemon 32:51 Bokutachi Game Center: 1941 34:34 Famicom Commericals: Best 10 34:46 (10) Takeshi no Chousenjou 35:17 (9) Namco 35:50 (8) Kiki Kaikai 36:23 (7) Zelda II 36:56 (6) Super Mario 2 / The Legend of Zelda 37:29 (5) Volleyball 38:02 (4) LaSalle Ishii no Child’s Quest 38:35 NOSTALGIC COMMERCIAL FEATURE 38:40 ROBOT Series 39:13 Taito Famicom titles 39:48 Dragon Quest 40:07 (3) Ganbare Goemon 2 40:40 (2) Famicom Wars 41:15 (1) Mario Golf: USA Course / Punch-Out!! 41:55 End
