My boss was kind enough to give me a disused late-model VHS deck he had on hand to attempt another tape rip of the OutRun cassette. Sadly it doesn't support S-video, so this is strictly composite quality, but the color is much more accurate on this video, with much less bleed. I need to trim some dead air from the beginning, but this looks pretty rad from where I stand.

Ripping these old tapes is pretty fun, so you can look forward to seeing these monthly until I run out of tapes/money.

OutRun: Official VHS Longplay Video [1987, Sony Home Video]

A digital rip of an official Sega/Sony VHS video of the arcade version of OutRun—a commercial longplay video before longplays existed. Recorded via S-video and upscaled to 720p. Features complete playthroughs of all routes accompanied by every "radio station," as well as showcases of different crashes, offroad situations, and all endings. An interesting archaeological curio.

Amazing stuff - I have never seen the animation around 18:10 where they throw the guy up into the air and drop him onto the pavement lol. Such violence for a racing game!

If you run out of money ripping old tapes I'm worried you'll ask me to up my pledge

I'm not asking anyone for anything. That's "running out of money" as in "no more discretionary spending cash for preserving old video game ephemera for the hell of it," not as in "sleeping on the street."
