At the moment I'm poring over press proofs for Game Boy Works Vol. I (with the second book's proofs slated to arrive soon), but I've also been poking away at the next volume: Super NES Works Vol. I. As I mentioned before, the original plan was to have that book completed this fall... but while that would have been possible, the quality of the production would have suffered. I've decided to give it a little more breathing room and make it the best thing I can possibly manage, and I'm happy with what I've come up with over the past few weeks.

You'll notice there's a change in format in this volume—Super NES boxes were horizontal rather than the vertical or square boxes of the NES and Game Boy. Loath as I am to create an inconsistent bookshelf of Works volumes, ultimately I think a book's primary function is to present the material within as the material demands. So I've flipped this volume sideways to use a landscape rather than portrait format, making maximal use of the page space to blow up the packaging photos as large as possible.

The change in format also allows me a little more breathing room to tinker with design elements and more varied layouts, especially in sidebars. I've been using the first entry in the book (F-Zero) as my test case for layout elements and new supplementary info, and I think the results read well, look good, and generally rock. This is still a bit rough and the text hasn't been edited yet, but I did want to share this work-in-progress file so you can see what is in the pipeline for early 2019.

The only downside is that I'm going to have to elevate the quality of the other Works projects to match....

Edit: For some reason this won't accept the file attachment. You can download the teaser here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a01v6tnm3bkcov3/SNES%20Works%201%20layout%20teaser.pdf?dl=0

Looks good! My old-man eyes would love larger text. When the pages are displayed on a 10" ipad I struggle to read comfortably.

Ah, I can't really do that, sorry. This is designed for print primarily and reflowing and laying out the pages again for PDF would take dozens of hours.

Man, that looks fantastic. Viewed on an iPad Pro in landscape. Very nice and readable and visually appealing. Will the non backer release of the game boy works books be up on Amazon like the last one?

Jeremy Parish

Nope, all my books will be sold through Fangamer rather than Amazon, since they (1) print at MUCH higher quality (2) at vastly lower prices: <a href="https://t.co/gSgJzeYE2V" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://t.co/gSgJzeYE2V</a>
