Hello, it's me, your favorite old man, here to talk about video games. This is the second episode in a row that I had to record on the road, so the audio might sound a little muffled since I used my portable setup for events rather than my usual mixing board. But! My life-destroyingly manic summer schedule has finally begun to calm down, and things should start to return to normal somewhat from this point (including a lot of bonus content makeup work). I'm also going to give the more distressed among the Nintendo fans a small anxiety break beginning next week by switching tracks over to NES Works for a month or so. You may choose to read this as a kindness... or you may also opt to regard it as a tactical means of stalling for space before diving into the very demanding and time-intensive one-two punch of Phantasy Star and Golvellius. Who can say, really!!

Mean streets: Double Dragon & Monopoly | Segaiden 065

Whether you're conquering them with spin kicks or rent increases, this week's Master System pairing is all about taking charge of the streets. This is not a strictly chronological pairing, mind you, but I've kinda skipped over Monopoly for a few episodes because I've developed a real distaste for the source property (in reality, about two months separated the arrival of these two games). My dislike of Monopoly is not a knock on the Master System release, because it does a bad thing well. There's merit to that. But if you've got 10 friends who want to sit around the TV and take turns playing video games, why not skip Monopoly and do five consecutive sessions of Double Dragon? Unlike the better-known NES release, this version of Double Dragon sticks close to the arcade original... that means cooperative multiplayer! And also super-cheap enemies who get attack priority and make the whole thing feel deeply unfair. Well. So it goes, I guess. You take the good with the bad... as the fact that I've paired Double Dragon with Monopoly in the first place demonstrates. Production notes: Why watch when you can read? Well, Monopoly and Double Dragon make for good content as I adjust to returning from my trip to Poland for Wikimania 2024. Yeah, those two upcoming Master System games are big so giving us comparably easier works like Defender of the Crown for NES might be good.

Hi Jeremy, I thought you'd like to know you have a double-take at 07:56. "Speaking of Nintendo's..."
