I say good day to you, sir! Or madam! Or whatever your preference of salutation! I have for you another episode/volume/issue of GTV. This one explores the narrative lore of hostess Sophie in perhaps more detail than is necessary. But it also has some interesting features! Once again, GTV leans into things outside of the Famitsu/Famimaga kids-oriented mainstream by lavishing lots of run time to strategy games (San Goku Shi, Daisenryaku, AND Famicom Wars all appear in this issue, and not simply lumped into a special feature!) as well as digging into the American experience (some great Chicago CES 1988 footage here that does the "wow gaming over there is so wacky!" the exact same way American pubs treated Japan at the time) and the history of both Namco and fighting games. I really wish this publication had survived into the ’90s. It's a treasure trove of less-than-mainstream opinions and releases from the era.

GTV: Game Tech Video Vol. 7 [Aug. 1988] VHS Rip

Sophie's split persona comes into focus this issue. If you're into that sort of thing. If not, well, there's a retrospective on Namco that leads into a preview of the sequel to Tower of Druaga; an overview of significant fighting games through the years; and a report on the 1988 Chicago Consumer Electronics Show that revels in showing Rad Racer being played with the goofy LJN Roll & Rocker controller.
