Good morning. First, a couple of apologies are in order. I'm sorry that I did not post a bonus video this past weekend, for those who subscribe to such things; I've been dealing with an ongoing family health concern for the past few weeks, and that situation has absolutely wrecked my schedule and made it a struggle for me to simply keep up with work. I only finished this video yesterday, where I try to work a video or two ahead of the Patreon posts. It doesn't help that this is the fourth half-hour-long video I've produced in less than two months, which is a little much. And I need to prep for my live presentations at MGC this weekend, so things aren't looking any lighter for the next few days. But I will post double bonuses some weekend soon and respond to outstanding messages as soon as I can.

Second apology: The voiceover sound quality in this episode is not great. My mixing board has been on the brink of death for a couple of years, but until now I've been able to fudge it by swapping mic ports. Alas, that no longer works, and I had to record several takes on this very lengthy script before I could even manage this. My replacement board should arrive today, so the blown-out audio is a one-time quirk. But it's still annoying and disappointing, especially when this was meant to be a 10th anniversary Video Works episode that marks the beginning of a new phase for this project. Thanks for nothing, universe.

Yes, 10 years. I'll be posting more about that soon. In the meantime, here's a look at the Game Boy from the U.S. NES chronology perspective—a very different point of view from the retrospective I posted a decade ago, which focused on the Japanese launch.

Second coming: The Game Boy | Game Boy Works Vol. 2 001

First, apologies for the slightly rough voiceover sound here. I'm in the process of replacing my burnt-out mixing board. Believe it or not, this was the most usable of three takes. Secondly, yes, I've already published a Game Boy system retrospective. About 10 years ago. This video covers the U.S. launch of the system rather than the Japanese—obviously it touches on a lot of the same material, but from a different angle... and with the added insight and detail that I've gleaned in a decade of putting together weekly retrospectives on systems from this era. Production notes: Video Works is funded via Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/gamespite) — support the show and get access to every episode up to two weeks in advance of its YouTube debut! Plus, exclusive podcasts, eBooks, and more! Why watch when you can read? Check out the massive hardcover print editions of NES Works, Super NES Works, Virtual Boy Works, and Segaiden are available now at Limited Run Games (https://limitedrungames.com/collections/books)! SG-1000 Works: Segaiden Vol. I is available NOW, and Metroidvania: The First Decade is due in 2024-25. Game Boy footage captured from Super Game Boy 2 in RGB from Analogue Super Nt and a Super NES. No apologies necessary for prioritizing health and family! We can all sympathize. Meanwhile, that was a fantastic summation of a truly iconic system. Just a note that contrary to the line at 24:38, Nintendo Switch Online does now offer both Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games on their service. I assume this may have been written earlier. Finally, the "go full ship-of-Theseus on their devices" line gave me a real laugh. Thanks for your commitment and hard work, your videos are always a bright spot in my day.

Jeremy, don't feel the pressure. Health and self first, so you may care for those in need around you.
