the timeline diverge from the og fate when instead the einzbern summon avenger, they summon a ruler, Amakusa Shirou on the 3rd holy grail war so the grail wasnt fucked up like on the og. after the war, ruler survived while his einzbern master died. Kotomine's dad was the overseer on the 3rd war and after the war, he was adopted by him hence he got the kotomine family name.
