It has been a wild ride. Retroquad is finally in a state that I am proud to show it to the world.

Get it here: Google Drive (2.6GB download, 9GB of disk space required).

That said, the technological difficulties in this project are much less challenging for me than the real life difficulties. Its Patreon is still underfunded and I'm having to live a very unhealthy lifestyle to save enough money to live and take care of my family. As I have mentioned before, this makes life extremely unbearable and it's hurting the progress of Retroquad a lot.

Retroquad is finally in a state where I could start working on further improvements to make it truly become the state of the art in realtime software rendering. With everything that's already implemented in it, plus these additional features alone, it would already surpass the best ones in the market:

  • Multicore rendering.
  • Colored lighting.
  • Shoreline foam.
  • Fog.

So, despite it still being not as complete as I'd envisioned, I hope you'll enjoy what Retroquad became so far.

PS: I've changed the title of the post to "Public Release" instead of "Public Demo Release" so people won't think that the engine has any restrictions. The engine is not a demo, but the other content included in this release (shareware Quake, etc) is.

So glad to see another public build. Hopefully it will help get the patreon some more attention!!
