George Clooney got ahold of early episode cuts and loved them so much that he wanted to voice a character. So he tracked down the creators and asked if he could guest star. They agreed, and the week before this episode aired, it was played up as this big deal because George Clooney was going to guest star as one of the characters. The character he voiced was Sparky, Stan's gay dog. George Clooney just went into the vocal booth and barked and panted a lot, and that was his big guest starring appearance.

I may be wrong, but I think rather than early episode cuts he had seen the Jesus vs Frosty short or the Jesus vs Santa short they made before the comedy central debut. That's why he was able to be in such an early episode. Regardless, it's funny how many big names South Park had supporting it early on. lol
