Can't wait for more flushing out of Woolsey's character. Robert Picardo is a phenomenal actor. It is still sad to see Amanda Tapping leaving though.

It wasn't planned for Amanda to do only one year of Atlantis. She had pitched the show Sanctuary but no one picked it up. She got some people to make it as a web series on the side to Atlantis. After 4-6 episodes, I forgot how many, Syfy took notice & decided it was worth it after all so they picked up the show. Both shows had a similar shooting schedule & I could be remembering wrong I think they both aired on the same night for this season. She chose to do Sanctuary over Atlantis because it was her creation & she brought Martin Wood with her to be a director & executive producer so sadly his tenure at Stargate is over too

That random female soldier who got a strange amount of focus was originally meant to be a new major character named Lieutenant Vega, and was even planned to be the show's first LGBTQ+ character. However, they decided to cut her introduction scene because they didn't want people to wait too long to continue off from the brutal cliffhanger last season left off on, and without her introduction scene, most of her later scenes made no sense, so they had to delete those too.

They had shot ark of truth after season 10 of SG1 then Amanda was filing the second at the same time as SGA 4x01 and 2. She left SGA to go to Sanctuary!!!

I think the worst part of Amanda leaving after just 1 season was she never really got the chance to settle into the team. There was Trio, there was the quarantine episode, and when she first arrived and had to prove she was going to stand up for the SGA team the way Weir did, but so many episodes she was either completely absent, or played a very minor role. I think maybe they understood it was a busy year with filming the movie, and figured they'd get her more fully integrated in S5, but then plans changed and they never got the chance. Still, Woolsey has had a pretty decent character arc since SG1 S7, so it'll be good to see him in a more regular role. As you said, now that Teyla has had her baby, it remains to be seen what her decision will be in regards to returning to work. I also like that they had a brief cameo from Rainbow, and that Sheppard failing to save Ford is such a big motivation for him now. I guess Michael got away in their jumper, so they're leaving that thread dangling. His plans have certainly been pretty thoroughly derailed at least. One line I thought was pretty odd though was saying the darts were acceptable losses. Like, it's YOUR guys keeping the gate open. Just have them break the connection and the darts can dial out and escape that way. Pretty solid opener, but aside from swapping Carter for Woolsey, not a lot of clues given as to where the season will go.
