Well, we finally made it to the end. Season 4 can be......very trying to watch. Lot of uncomfortable and awkward writing that made the show just feel weird, and was definitely less appealing than the storylines in the first 3 seasons. Jasmine was an interesting villain. On the one hand you could argue she did a lot of good, and while it's kind of a train track paradox, had her "world peace" continued and all the war and crime and perhaps poverty been resolved, then the people she ate would be a small drop in the bucket next to the ones she saved. Still, does it mean anything if none of them have free will. On the other hand, a few things clue you in to the fact that while she may have wanted to shape the world into this peaceful and beautiful place, she was only motivated to do so if she was going to rule it all. Her messaging shifts from "I'm here to show you a better way" to "I'm here to take over", she asks for a giant temple, and finally she's willing to wipe out humanity as soon as people see her for what she is. I never really got why Connor killed her though. I guess he was just lost. Even afterward he still seemed to buy into what she was selling. These last 2 episodes he just seems so lost that he doesn't know what or who to believe. At least Angel found a way to give him some kind of meaningful future, even if that meant losing him. It was the best move he could make as a parent. I think there was a pretty good reason for them making ep22 what it is. Angel S4 wrapped a couple weeks before Buffy S7. That left time for that little tie in with the folder Lilah gave Angel, but moreover, if the season had just ended with Jasmine's defeat, and there weren't a lead in to S5, they might have lost some more of the audience between seasons. Giving this giant teas of the Angel crew getting W&H and all it's toys gives the audience a little tease to keep them hooked for S5. If it had just ended with the previous episode, everything might feel wrapped up in a neat bow, and with Buffy being done, some people might not bother tuning in for S5 with no idea as to how it would change. Taking the deal was probably a bad idea. It's true they could do a lot with those resources, but what's hidden in the fine print? Great seeing Lilah back though, and I do love that little resolution she had with Wes. Like I said a while back, it's funny how what seems to be the most twisted and abusive relationship in the show can at times feel like the most genuine.

a lot of the fandom praises season 5 as the best. but i feel like when people say this, they should preface it by saying it starts slow and has a handful of dull episodes too. that being said, when it gets good...it really takes off. it has some of the best episodes from the series imo. but be warned that it takes some time to get there. so if it isn't omg amazing right out the gate, just be patient.
