This episode highlights something I absolutely hate hate *hate* about the Atlantis’ expedition's lack of an ethics department with our boy mike. They keep saying “oh you could come live with us instead” yet they horribly mistreated him even as a “human” who didn’t and couldn’t know what he was, for one thing, so they’re already offering a hellish existence like it’s a cool thing to get, *and* that the retrovirus destroys the consciousness of the ricipient. There is no difference at all between what Atlantis is offering, and death. Nothing of the original Michael remains, **everything** that makes him who he is is destroyed permanently (because they won’t let him restore from it if he did go). The only difference is a mockery gets to walk around in your skin and pretend like it shares anything at all with its host, while it is twisted into an active combatant and turned on everything you once were. Nobody would take that deal. Also ronon is 100% right here. The retrovirus was a mistake. It didn’t work and the way that the Atlantis expedition still tries to cling onto it and make excuses while they are literally standing inside a death camp that has exterminated an entire people instead of owning up to the fact that they are DIRECTLY responsible, is just straight up *monstrous* behavior.
