Haven't watched the reaction yet, will get to it later tonight, incase you didn't notice (i dont' know yet) that's David's real-life sister, playing his sister, in the show. Which is super neat. So the sibling chemistry is real.

This is one of my favorite episodes. I always love the SGA and SG1 episodes where they bring new people in on the Big Secret. And I agree, that it was a great writing choice that they didn't do the whole evil twin trope. This was much more entertaining and thought provoking. Great reaction as always !! Speaking of favorite episodes - wow - the whole rest of this season is amazing. So many excellent episodes coming up, and an incredible season finally !!

Originally, the creators were planning to make Rodney have a brother, but David Hewlett made them change their minds when he mentioned that he had a sister who was also an actress...and thus, the sister was mentioned way back in season 1 in the hope that they could cast his real life sister in role later on.

I quite love this episode. I'm glad they got David's real sister to play Rodney's sister, because it just made the chemistry palpable. Their relationship very much reminds me of how my brother and I used to be. Which.. makes me sad. I haven't rewatched this one since he died, so I got a little emotional. But it's such a good episode I definitely wanted to see the reaction. Also loved "Rod", and the fact Rodney's first name is Meredith. Maybe his parents were expecting a girl and after he was born just said "Fuck it" and added Rodney for his middle name, lol. I almost wanted to see annoying, condescending Mensa club Sheppard. Anyway.. it was just a nice episode. Gave Rodney more depth. Introduced us to his sister, who was very sweet. And mended their relationship a bit.. which is always a good thing.

I looked it up - Meredith has historically been a name for males in Wales. I had an inkling because one of my close friends in high school was named Ryan, and her brother was Shannon - traditional Irish names.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Sweet! Thanks for looking that up :) I actually like names that can be used for whatever gender, or names that are usually used for one gender used for another, like your examples. I actually had a male friend named Shannon when I was younger. But I always think of Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon when I think of male Shannon's, even though I had a friend named that once, which is probably weird of me. But well, I really liked Blind Melon. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DJ

I love their dynamic on screen and off :)

James Yancy

I always enjoyed this episode very much. It was awesome that they used David's actual sister, and she really put her own talent on display. Their relationship dynamic is one of the great ones in Stargate, among numerous great examples.

My mother tried her darndest when I was young to use the nickname Stevie, but I wasn't having it lol. My middle name, Loryn, is after my father, Loren, and I always believed Lauren was the "proper" female version of it until I met a woman named Loren in college. As for Blind Melon, I'm familiar with No Rain, but can't say I know much else, let alone any of their names, but please, keep being weird ! lol it's what keeps the world going =)

Carter got so bored of taking time out of her day to explain the big secret she has Daniel make dvds

Many names we now consider feminine have originally been masculine. Shannon, Vivian, Evelyn, Dana, etc.

Lady Beyond The Wall

I actually think "Loren" is a nice name for a guy or a girl. Never really thought about it until now, but..it looks nice. But I like Loryn too :) That's a pretty middle name. My mom wanted to name me either Aurora or.. Echo. Aurora I think I would have liked. Not sure about "Echo" though. Maybe I would've liked it eventually. Either way, my father wasn't having either of those and thus, I was named after a Beach Boys song.

Stef Furness

I thought I grew up listening to the Beach Boys and now looking at the whole song list, I'm realizing there's A LOT I've never heard of, including one called Lady =)

Stef Furness

I was almost Samantha, and I guarantee my mother would have called me Sam

Lady Beyond The Wall

😂😂 Your first guess was correct! My name is Rhonda. :) And oh god, the amount of times I've had people sing that song to me is... huge. Funny enough, speaking of male and female names, most close friends when I was younger and my mom still calls me this sometimes, is "Rhon" - so unless you see it spelled out, it sounds like Ron, for Ronald. There were more than a few times I met someone for the first time through a friend and they were like "OH, I thought you were a guy! Your friend kept calling you Ron!"

Lady Beyond The Wall

And yeah they definitely (along with lots of other bands during that time) had a few songs with women's names for the title. I'm sure lots of girls were named after older songs - though, not a lot of Rhonda's. I've only met 1 other Rhonda, personally. But I actually avoided listening to the Beach Boys for a long time specifically because of how much people sang that song around me or when they heard my name the first time. Way too long actually. I only started truly appreciating how great their music is (and specifically their harmonizing vocals, ugh, so good) maybe 10 years ago.

Lady Beyond The Wall

I immediately imagined Daniel's hypothetical "secret reveal" DVD's being like Captain America's little school videos from Spiderman Homecoming. "So.. you got security clearance to know about the Stargate.."

If you were born today and your dad was a Lumineers fan, he's have a few options to choose from

Timothy Nikiforovs

Not much to add that hasn't already been said. This is just a really great episode, and having David's sister play his in universe sister worked brilliantly. I will add, Sheppard really is a great friend. If he hadn't stepped in to show Jeannie that tape she and Rodney might not have mended their relationship. The "team bonding" scene at the end was also a nice touch.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Ah true! There's definitely still bands that do the "name as a song" thing, including them. I'd pull a "hipster" and say I liked them before they got big, but they got big pretty quick, so I only liked them maybe a few months before I heard them on the radio at work like 10 or 11 years ago. 😂 There's definitely some song titles I wouldn't have minded being named after. I didn't "like" my name for a long time, mostly because TV representations of most characters named Rhonda for some reason were never very flattering, lol. 🤷🏻‍♀️ There was one Rhonda on The Wire though that was pretty normal, so that was nice! I learned to like it though. It's not too common, so I never had to deal with there being 2 or 3 people in the same classes or workplaces having my name, and whenever I do hear it on tv I'm like "Oh cool, another one!" and when I met one in real life, which only happened once, it was like meeting a twin for both of us..lol. Like "Ooo another one of me!" And it was kinda weird actually, because we had the same color hair and eyes and were the same height, but she was 10 years older.

Lady Beyond The Wall

That's a good point about Sheppard. It was very nice of him to show her that video..to let her know that her brother really does care about her, even if he has/had a hard time showing it. Some people are just like that with their emotions and expressing them. Doesn't mean they love you less or don't love you at all, but it is nice to actually get that sort of verification that he was thinking about her when he thought he was going to die. That and...Leadership.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Well, personally, I like the name Tim. I've been watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail reactions a lot lately, so I just keep thinking of the Enchanter saying "My name is.... Tim?" because John Cleese forgot his line, loll. One of the funniest parts of that movie, to me.

Timothy Nikiforovs

I don't think I've ever seen an MP movie all the way through, but I feel like I've seen most of the gags in clips over the years. "Biggus Dickus" has to be near the top. Those poor guys trying their best not to laugh.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Oh yeah, that's probably the best scene in The Life of Brian to me. Absolutely hilarious. Apparently they told those extras they wouldn't get paid if they laughed so them holding their laughter in appeared more genuine and it WORKED. 😂 I'd have cracked, personally. I've seen it multiple, multiple times and it's somehow funny every. single. time.

James Yancy

Had to mention, I love the Johnny Cash poster in Shepherd's room. I think that was probably Joe Flanigan's doing. Johnny Cash was a legend despite the rough life he lived. If anyone hasn't heard his cover of "Hurt", you should check it out. It's one of the most powerful and raw pieces of music I've ever heard. I tear up every time. 😢 The music video for that song is particularly powerful.
